I thought we could maybe share some moments of Nintendo brilliance.

Post up any Youtube clips or just simply tell us why Nintendo still deserves to be in the industry today.

They get a lot of negativity around the web from *trendy* teens who are too cool for bright colours, so its time we highlighted some of the brilliance that Nintendo have brought us over our gaming lives.

Well this is where it all begun for me.

My sister and I were given a Nintendo NES with this game for Christmas when I was about 4-5yrs old. The little rectangular controller, not remotely ergonomic but simple and effective. It also came with a Lightgun which made a spring click noise that I still remember till this day.

I have memories of us pressing the gun up against the screen of our age old Ferguson CRT Tv, special times! :D .

The Super Mario side of the cart kinda goes without saying. Probably the greatest and most influential game this side of Pong and Space Invaders. The music within Bowsers castle was planted in my brain for ever, coupled with the little moment of annoyance when you dont quite reach the top of the flagpole :) .

Ill leave it there for now before I move onto my feelings about the Super NES, N64 and Wii U.

Be positive guys! 30 years of Mario!

I find Nintendo games are a joy to play and always brings a smile to your face. Lets hope the Nintendo Nx is a big hit

They release games with a level of polish that no other developer quite reaches. Mario kart and 3d world this generation have been an absolute joy to play. Graphics and attention to detail like no one else.

True a lot of developers can learn a lot from Nintendo, I don't think I have bought a broken game on Wii u yet

First-party Nintendo games, particularly the Mario ones, are still (IMO) the best gaming experience around. So well designed and polished, and so much fun as well.

It's a testament to the brand and quality that Nintendo are still as good at what they do now as they have always been in terms of games design.

Unquestionably the greatest video game developer of all time.

Mario, Metroid, Zelda, Mario spin-offs (Kart, Paper, Party, Tennis, Golf ...), Star Fox, F-Zero, Pilot Wings, Smash Bros, Wave Race, Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem .. and on and on.

I've owned every Nintendo console bar the virtual boy and have happily lost 1000s of hours to their games. They may have drifted away from their core gaming roots in recent years but they will always have a place under my TV :) Here's hoping their next console brings a return to the nes/snes/n64 glory days!

Keeping it simple was the key to their games. Nothing too ambitious, but always put a smile on your face. Their current stuff has lost its way, so lets hope it returns.

The thing is though, I don't actually think they have really lost their way. In fact I think they have stayed true to themselves. In recent times Mario Kart has been on a completely different level to anything else in the racing genre. It's quite perfect really. It runs like nothing else and looks wonderful.

Zelda looks like potentially the most fantastic world they have ever made. I like how Nintendo do their video reveals. Reggie and Miyamoto are strangely cool for older guys. The passion is there. Miyamoto is a God though really.

Always have been a huge fan of the big N. Favourite console of all time SNES, favourite game of all time Donkey Kong Country on SNES. Only had a wii U for 3 months or so and am absolutely loving it. The gamepad is this generation's best innovation.

How good was Yoshis island on the Snes?! That was my favourite platform game ever. Now I loved Mario 3 and Super Mario World but yoshis island was so good for me. I remember spending of hours trying to get every coin and flower when I was a boy. I think anyone around my age has good Nintendo memories.

Golden gun 4 player Goldeneye. Probably best fps times ever. Picking odd job to make yourself harder to hit!

I think pokemon took up most of my time, everyone at school had their fat gameboys playing pokemon, it used to drive the teachers nuts. My favourite has to be Golden Eye 64,Diddy Kong Racing, Kirby's Adventure, Wario land!

I remember driving 320 miles to Kendal in June 96 and paying £600 to pick up a Japanese N64 with a copy of PILOTWINGS 64 just 48 hours after it was released in Japan. The guy selling it had 3 for sale!! He also had Super Mario 64 at £150 and let me play it for 20 mins.
It was a special memory I wont ever forget... probably because i got done for speeding on the M6 on the way home :D

Our house contains:

One DS
One 3DSXL
One new3DSXL MM LE
One Wii U

One DVD wall unit packed full of the finest Nintendo's software and a growing Amiibo collection.

No other consoles are allowed, house rules.

Nuff said.

I've never called you a fanboy - I've called you a troll - because that's exactly what you are. You prove it time and time again.

lol OK

pointing out flaws in a company / system = / = being a troll

back on topic

other than pokemon FF:tactics on the GBA was amazing

The thing is though, I don't actually think they have really lost their way.

They've lost their way in terms of catering for the hardcore gamer. I hate that term, but you know what I mean. Their first party games still have the polish and quality, but they're generally becoming easier and more party game influenced. All in the name of accessibility, of course, and depending on what you're into that's good or bad. For me it's been a while since Nintendo released something really immense that demands serious attention. Now we get very safe, albeit excellently realised, throw away bits of fun. Super Mario 3D Land is a great example. For the most part very easy with lots of tiny, bite-sized levels. And that's fine, but Nintendo used to produce games that sucked me in as much as something like The Last of Us or Bloodborne. Proper gamer's games. I still vividly remember playing Metroid Prime for the first time. It was jaw dropping. 4 hrs in and I wiped my save just to experience and play through the opening levels again. Let's have more of this please Nintendo.

Snes and the N64 were the stable diet through the 90's and I have lots of great memorys. Nintendo havent done too much in years that has interested me but I still like to see the company do well.
