Nintendo Appreciation Thread.

My first nintendo console would have been an N64 or the gameboy colour

Pokemon blue/red was mind blowing for me at that age, my first 'rpg' i would imagine.

On the n64 side i would play mario 64, diddy kong racing, golden eye etc

I always regret never playing zelda at that point :( my first zelda was windwaker but it came with orcarina on a 2nd disc so i got into it then :)

I loved my SNES and GameCube, but I hate all of Nintendos first part games.

I get no entertainment from playing them at all.

I've never been able to get into Nintendo, I've owned various systems and games over the years, but the cutesy Japanese aesthetic that overrides everything just doesn't appeal to me. I appreciate the quality of the design and polish though.

Saying that, me and my housemates at uni sank an alarming amount of time into Animal Crossing

Their first party stuff is second to none, Halo and Demon's Souls probably the only two from the other companies I think would be a real gap in the games I've played, where as Nintendo has a ridiculous number.

Generally very little focus on story, promote local coop and a strong focus on a game being fun and challenging mechanically, as opposed to set piece games also the lack of achievements/trophies is enjoyable.

They've still got a ways to go in certain departments, online being the main one.

For me the classics of Super Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, Mario Kafrom the gameboy, GBA, SNES era just can't be beaten.

At primary school on games day, some of us had GB green screen. Most people don't realise how good multiplayer tetris really was.

Shame we had to grow up and the community moved on.

Super Mario World, Zelda, Metroid, F Zero and Pilot Wings.

How can you hate those? Not to mention Donkey Kong Country as well.

Easily, I didn't like any of them.

The Snes had the best controller, best arcade ports, best third party exclusives and best versions of the muliplatform games.

I had over something like 70 SNES carts, and I had one Nintendo first party title- Starwing.

RE4 and the resident evil remake was the reason I bought the GameCube, I have a 3DS with one game RE Revelations.

In fact, it's only ever been third party software that has led me to buy Nintendo consoles.

Defining company for me that got me into console gaming. That said, I had a PSX over the N64 and side from OOT and Mario 64 I don't feel I missed out at all as the PSX had way more games on it and a lot of firsts that hadn't been done until that point.
Mario 3d World was my favourite game of 2013 and I do like Kart but not getting the enjoyment like I got out of the SNES one but then age plays a part in that.

For me it started with these 2.

I got a master system (a very underrated console) after those though, and never actually owned a NES.
All my mates had one though so I always still managed to play NES games to the death, completing SM3 numerous times, snake rattle and roll, etc.
I have owned every Nintendo console since then though, must have had a collection of about 60 games on the SNES and all the major hits on the N64 too.

I remember having a copy of the Nintendo magazine back in the 90's, they had a "Stop Press!" section and I always used to press the circle the text was on thinking it was supposed to do something.
