Nintendo DSi now available for pre order

What's the point in 2 cameras?! I could understand it if the were on opposite sides of it, as they are with phones, but they both point the same way!

I'm pretty sure one points away from you, one points towards you.

Yeah, one is on the lid and one is on the hinge facing you.

Can't see the point in this to be honest, love my DS lite, which is an upgrade of the DS, now this is an upgrade of an upgrade...

Anyhoo will look foward to the NEXT gameboy type thingy

I Sold My DS Lite... Never really found the love of portable gaming.... Im either at home on the 360 or the PC.

These don't seem to have much improvement on the DS Lite, they seem way overpriced

Tbh it looks like a waste of money. Doesn't seem to bring much new to the table. IMO there isn't really much you could upgrade on the DS lite. Screen is sharp, it's a good size, speakers are fine, and it by no means looks dated.
They'll have to do something really amazing with the cameras to make this a worthwhile purchase.
This DSiWare seems like a bit of a con too - although it might be worth investing in if it supports 3rd party developers! Anyone know if it does?

Just to add in case people don't already know, standard DS games are still region free. But when it comes to the downloadable DSi specific DSware games, they are not.

I may get one just for the sake of it and for DS only stuff. I will still keep my trusty old DS Phat for GBA games etc.

Pah I've had my DS lite for years now and there's no games on it that makes even want to use it. I aren't much for the DS or PSP they're both rubbish. No handheld is worth 150 some one could get a 360 arcade, the Pro is only 166 quid now. I even seen BluRay players that cost less than 150 quid as well.

Will pick up on of these to add to my console collection but I cant justify paying £150 for one, I didn't pick up a PSP 3000 for the same reason.

I'm not convinced. If I didn't have a DS Lite already, then I'd consider it, but I see no point to upgrade. I suppose the SD slot allows for more media capabilties, but the PSP has that nailed already and is better suited to it. Besides, I have an Ipod, so why do I need another music/video player? I also don't see the benefit of the cameras, and I think breaking backward compatibility with games that use the GBA slot (Guitar Hero, anyone?) is a bit unwise.

It would have convinced me if they didn't go for horrible matt black and dirty white. I've currently got the red version and you can't see any fingermarks on it unless you go looking for them.

I think I'll stick it out for a year until they release a Red version :D.

Apart from the simple added media capabilities which would appeal to some people, one thing that I do find important though is finally support for the likes of WPA wireless encryption, instead of the crappy WEP. This is especially important for people who want to game online using their home ADSL wireless routers that use WPA.

this, I'm not lowering my security just for a DS:mad:

True, I had many troubles with my router changing to WEP just to try my DS with Mariokart online and I don't want to go through the trouble again. Fact of the matter is it should've been WPA in the first place.

I have too many internet bums in my area to lower my security.

DSi-compatible flash carts already exist though.

Yup, I think Acekard (sp?) have made them. However another change is that the DSi will be subject to firmware/system updates which Nintendo may take advantage of to counter flash cards.

I don't like the look of it too much, looks cluttered now, I don't know why the power button needed to be re-positioned, the volume control is now digital, battery life is shorter, no increase in screen resolution with the larger screens, GBA slot gone, I see now real reason to upgrade from a DS lite.

I can only assume that the cost of WPA was prohibitive, particularly when I'd imagine that <1% of DS buyers care about it.

Well they're putting it in now (atleast from what I'm told) so it atleast should've made it to the DS Lite, Can't really justify that £150 price tag at the moment when my lite plays perfectly well.

I also hope they made the hinge more durable, my dad's and cousins hinge both have a crack in. It's almost certain kids will wear them down so maybe Matt was a perfect option to make it more Rugged.
