Nintendo Wii Event Times...

What was the fiasco I think I missed it!

No delivery?

People didnt get their consoles on time when they said they were in stock. Then people who ordered the day of launch got them when they were allocated into stock leaving with people with pre orders hanging their cheese out to dry.

From what I remember last year (had mine ordered with gameplay so wasnt affected!) they seemed to have no clue on how many they were getting and when they did recieve their allocation they sent them out willy nilly to people rather than to the first ones who ordered!

Personally I wouldnt touch them for console launches, they top notch for cheap games and what not but I dont think i'd trust them with my new hardware. Plus unless they send them out early you wont get it on launch day either.

I have to admit, I was dissapointed with the price of the console, but far more so with the controllers... £43 for a combo?

This comic seems fairly relevent even today....

Just remember that Microsoft are probably losing money on every console sold at £199, whereas Nintendo will be profiting on each Wii sold. It's not as straightfoward comparing the prices of the Wii and 360, because Nintendo's financial might isn't in the same league as Microsofts. Not even Sony can afford to heavily subsidise the price of their consoles, which is why the PS3 is costing such a bomb.

In this light, the price tag seems respectable.

True. But £43 for a controller combo has to be their most expensive yet.

yeah im waiting for them also,, i knew loads of people who were dissapointed and got no 360 on launch day by ordering with the other store, I even got done over when I ordered a vga cable from them :( Ordered my 360 a day before launch with gameplay and turned up 10 oclock next morning :)

spoke to gameplay (love having a work phone!)

They have advised me that I cant pre order for another couple of weeks until they clarify all the details and sign a contract with Nintendo.

So we got a wait if thats true!

Theres no way in hell anyone can classify the wii as an "expensive current gen" system. This whole arugments been brought about by people just expecting nothing more than graphics upgrades in consoles over the last lot of years. Nintendos taking a different approach and using hardware thats around 1-1.5x more powerful than the gamecube, to me the gamecube more than held its own in graphics horsepower when compared to the xbox, ps2 graphically was a joke imo desite sonys bs comments of how it was gonna be rendering x hundreds of millions of polygons bla bla bla.

If left to ms and sony the only difference we'd have every 5 years is "zomg better graphics" and the usual whoring of specs epenis contests the last few e3's have turned into. Nintendo's the only innovator in the industry with the rest of the sheep following, just shows with sonys sad mimmicking of some of the wii controller functions in their "new" 10+ year old controller.

It may not be graphically as impressive as the other 2 consoles but last i checked, fun was one of the most important parts of gaming, id prefer to try somthing new rather than hammer butons on a controller like ive been doing since the atari 2600.

Well what this does raise is a question 'what constitues next gen'? A new controller? Better graphics? what?? What did the gamecube bring over the N64? besides a graphics upgrade? The Snes over the Nes? The GBA over THE GBC over the GB please lets not get on our nintendo High Horse!
I am sorry but please stop saying that Sony and MS have done nothing to innovate gaming. MS made online gaming intergrated into the console, and they done it very very well, so well Nintendo are now doing the same.
The PS3 (edit ment PS2) is littered with every experiment under the sun for using controllers, from Guitars to motion sensing Cameras. And have installed a massive base of gaming systems, and brought it to a whole new market, the 18-35 year olds, as before not many of them fancied playing nintendo's
I struggle to see how nintendo are the only innovators and everyone else folows suit, i havent seen any more touch screen handhelds and Wii remote controllers kicking around (The PS3 controller doesn;t count as Sony have toyed with the tech they are using for 7 years and it is more comparible to the MS sidewinder than a wiimote). MS are copying Sony's Eye Toy, sony are copying MS's online server, what did people copy from the GC??
This post isnt ment to be so anti Nintendo, but i think some of it needed to be said. And i am not anti Nintendo, or Pro MS or Pro sony, but i am trying to balance out a lot.
Anyway back on topic

Was there actually any mention of the sensor bar being shipped with the UK bundle ?

It seems obvious, but I remember them specifically mentioning the sensor bar for USA and JAP, but have heard nothing for PAL !?!?

So according to IGN, its:
European launch date December 8 2006
£179 (249 Euros).
Package will include: Console, Wiimote, nunchuck and Wii Sports.
Games will cost £35 - £39 in the UK and 49-59 Euros elsewhere.

Meh, not bad.

Regarding the virtual console:

In Europe, it turns out, 2000 Wii points will cost you EUR 20 or GBP 14, and you can expect to be able to buy them on cards through retailers, and using your credit card online.

Games will cost the same amount of points worldwide - 500 points for NES games, 800 points for Super Nintendo games, and 1000 for Nintendo 64 - and apparently other titles (SEGA, TurboGrafx) will be decided soon.

So thats £3.50 for a NES game, £5.60 for a SNES game and £7 for an N64 game.

Possibly a little on the steep side, but not too bad.

About what you would pay for them second hand on auction sites. Not bad pricing.

Secret of Mana and Chrono trigger will be 10 times cheaper than auction sites if they appear on Virtual Console ;)

Not too bad, but i wonder if u can import points?? given some exchange rates just now could be good lol

SOM and Chrono are the ones I really want to see on the virtual console :)

And given that Square seem to be back onboard with Nintendo I wouldn't bet against Chrono being available sometime soon (it's a very easy way for the publishers to make some money from "dead" titles).
