Nintendo Wii

Had a Wii since just after launch, played the majority of the 'better' games that have been released for it, and it has left me distinctly underwhelmed. There's not a single game apart from the initial fun I had with Wii sports that has made me play for more than a couple of hours, or days at best.

I will stop short of calling it a novelty or gimmick as some people like to, but it certainly hasn't impressed me so far. In fact it would have been sold already if the GF would let me :o

Hi there im thinking of getting a wii - are they any good

I posted this in another thread,

"I can't get my girlfriend playing PGR or Fight Night but she will play Wii Sports, the mini games in Sonic and even Streets of Rage! so Nintendo are doing okay in my book."

Great console for local multiplayer, bloody expensive tho when you add up the cost of the Wiimotes and Nunchucks.

Bought one yesterday due to bank holiday weather and my arms ache this morning after the thrashing i gave it (or myself) :D, got it with CoD 3, Blazing Angels and Red Steel, have to admit i havent played anything else other than WII sports tho its great fun, and im rubbish at bowling on it just like in real life!

oh well i managed to get one from a local music store.

£161.98 for the wii sports pack - just by appling for a store card.

its just getting used to the controller now

I got one on saturday, just with wii sports. Love it so far but only played mybe 3 hours total.

really just hope nintendo can do their stuff with 1st and 3rd party games.

The innovation will take a bit of time I think for developers to relly get sued to the control style and design an original game from ther ground up using the wiimote.

Just think of the inevitable star wars game.

I'd say its suffering too, pretty much nothing of any substance since Graw2. I've hardly used mine in a few weeks. I'd say its the worst period yet with little to play on the 360.

As for the Wii I'd say try before you buy, I'm pretty much in the same boat as Jumpurs. I rarely use it but my wife and people that come round love it.

For the money I'd say its worth it.
There are plenty of great games out for the 360 =/

Unless you have all the other consoles, my opinion is don't buy the Wii. I can't work out why people recommend them, I've had mine since day of release. I played it a bit in the first couple of weeks but haven't turned it on since.

At the time I was looking forward to Mario, Metroid Prime etc and although these were pushed back from release titles they were expected within a month or so of release.. now they're not expected until September and that will probably go back.. Zelda looked no better than the Gamecube version and the Wii cotroller was hardly accurate for it.

So why buy the Wii, to have some last-gen graphics, lack of games (by that I mean the ones u actually want). The novelty factor of the cotroller will wear off sooner rather than later.

This isn't a biased post, I have the Xbox360, PS3 and Wii (and all previous consoles) and I would say the Wii is the worst console I have EVER purchased... but I'm still keeping it for when Mario is released :)

Yeah but the period since christmas hasnt delivered much at all.

If I buy some gamecube games for the wii do I need to buy a gamecube mem card as well or will the games save to the wii?

it may not be a biased post but its still just an opinion, so you wouldnt recommend a wii to someone, i would i think its great and im used to the wait for good games with every nintendo console, id rather wait than they rush them the big games have obviously been delayed for a reason

I dont really like the wii because I like to sit down and play games for stretches of time, I dont really like the idea that the only games I like on the wii I could get similar on the Gamecube. Warioware and wii play are all good, but for me I want games with more depth to them. Dont get me wrong, it is good for short blasts of gaming, but I find it a bit repetitive. (Also i'm a lazy git and dont want to move much when playing games!) Saying that, i have a 360 and PS3, if I wanted a wii I would buy it....but I dont.

edit - also got scarred for life when i had a GC, lack of games coming out consistently, and any I did get which were cross platform were horrible compared to others

I sold my wii after 3 months just got abit bored, played xbox live too much, was just collecting dust. Sold it for £230 all boxed up with zelda, supermonkey ball and wii play, extra chuck, classic controller, should have sold it for more

I absolutely love my Wii and can't stop playing it. Mario Strikers is awesome and things can only get better as they release more online games. It may not have the best graphics etc, but it is a bloody good console nonetheless. Me and the missus have hours of fun playing Wii Sports and Warioware - a bargain too :)

Bought one on release and sold it a few weeks later...

I completed Zelda and played Wii Sports/Rayman with my family over the Christmas break. It was definitely the most fun I'd had with a console in a good few years. At the time however, the release calendar was pretty much bereft of anything worthwhile, which is what prompted me to sell it. Well, that and the fact I was able to make a tidy profit from it. Mugs.

It's a great machine let down by a lack of great games. That said, I'm absolutely certain the Wii-Remote is the best thing to happen to (console) gaming in a long time and should never be regarded as a mere novelty. As soon as some of the next generation of games are released (which hopefully should demonstrate the true graphical capabilities of the machine), I'll be very tempted to purchase another one.

Launch line up must have been fairly dry, I'm glad I waited a few months before I bothered as it looks like I don't have to wait long before some good games come out.

One of the reasons I go a Wii that I don't have time for gaming any more :( but with a Wii and some fun simple games I can play for 20minutes and be content.

Ideally I would have also have either a Xbox360 or ps3 and a supped up PC, but cost and lack of time prevents this.

Mario Strikers is great, I however foolishly bought Godfather at the same time and now it has a monopoly on my Wii time, regardless of the damage all that strangling is doing to my wrists.

1) It does look better. Compare side to side and you'll see that the lighting is far bette on the Wii version.
2) It wasnt ment to be accurate. If it was, it would have been a pain to play. Plus, you cant deny that when you get some way into Zelda (have you?) that using the Wiimote for control just feels perfect? So much fun shaking your hands about to pull off a class finishing move! :p :D

Novelty? Prehaps. But so much of a novelty that Sony tryed to copy it!
And are you really that daft to rate a console/game based on graphics?

The Wii's problem is that theres a severe shortage of games at the moment. Otherwise its fine imo.
I played on my Wii non stop when i got it. But havnt been on it for the last month or so. Because theres no games out that i want for it. :(.

Sony never used the controller as the main selling point, Nintendo did, and are you really that daft that you can't understand there were 3 stages to that agruement not purely graphics. But yeah if the same game was released on all consoles and the main difference was graphics then i'd choose to get the one with best graphics. And I doubt that would ever be the Wii !

And that was the main point, with the other consoles there is always something decent being releaed and not just the promise of something.

At the moment im struggling to find any decent releases on any format, my Wii is keeping me going with mario strikers which is a great laugh.

Also the other thing people seem to forget/not realise is that just cause the wii has these motion sensing capabilities doesn't mean that a game has to use them.

Without the motion controllers i find it one of the ebst controllers ive ever used as it gives me freedom
