Just wondering if anyone is picking this up today?

£27.99 on cd keys at time of writing but I'm sure that will go up later as it's launch day.

I liked the first but didn't finish it.

This was until now a PS4 Exclusive game, had very good reviews but is apparently very unforgiving

Tempted. However I've so many games, I've brought and never got round to playing, as it's a thought of "I'll get round to it". Never do. Hmmm.

I'm torn. It's the price that's tempting me, compared to £49.99 directly on steam.

But usually with cd keys, if it's been that price before, it will be again.

I absolutely loved the first one, and played straight thought it to the end of NG+++ before I finally burned out with the loot grinding that became necessary at that point. One of my favourite games of all time, with the only real negative point I experienced being that it does unfortuantely just get too grindy as you get towards the final play through (not really an issue until that point, though).

It had some punishingly difficult moments, really superb feeling combat and an interesting use of Japanese folklore for its enemies. A lovely variety of weapons, skills and movesets kept it feeling fresh right up to 130+ hours.

I've been looking forward to the sequel for a good while now. I have several games in my backlog, though, and currently using my gaming time trying to take one of my kids through DSIII co-op, so I may end up waiting to see what the price does in the coming month or two. I was seriously close to clicking the buy button on the £27.99 deal I got emailed, though...

Just downloading it. Picked it up on a cd key site yesterday for £27.

Loved the first one but didn't actually complete it at the time.

Stopped playing the first game so as not to burn out before 2 came out but I have so many games to be playing already I'm undecided

The fact that you can create your own character in this sequel is a huge plus, they completely disrespected their source material the first game in making the real historical English explorer and first non-Japanese Samurai William Adams an Irishman, being tortured in the Tower of London no less. Really is a complete joke in that sense, would be like making a game about an Irish hero, but a dev deciding let's make them English instead and have the enemies be Irish torturers instead. Wouldn't go down well - at all. I appreciate historical accuracy isn't Nioh's intent, then why include real historical figures at all.

Still hoping a proper William Adams game is made at some that actually respects the source material, in the meantime Nioh 2 looks a better for not forcing you to play a single character.

Decided to wait.

Early steam reviews are mixed many claim it to be a lack luster port though all the reviews I saw from critics were pretty happy with it.

Usual complaints of ultra wide issues and issues for kB/m.. why would anyone play these games with kB/m is beyond me but each to his own ;)

I'll wait a bit

Well, I play them with kb&m! :)

Vastly prefer that to controllers. Glad to see I'm not alone!

Tbf, the issues I've read from the negative Steam reviews look pretty minor to me: mostly the fact that controller prompts show up even if you set it to use kb&m (same as Dark Souls and a fair few other console ports - a minor annoyance, but so long as you know your keybindings not a big deal is it?) and no support for super-ultra wide but with 21:9 supported okay (I mean, I guess this would be an aggravating issue if you had a 32:9 set-up or something, to be fair).

I've seen some reports of stuttering and sudden fps drops too, and I recall the first Nioh had these same issues on the PC if you didn't have a controller plugged in (even if you were using kb&m). Can't help but wonder if the same thing is happening this time around too.

Sorry, may have come across as dismissive there.

I use kB and m for certain games but anything 3rd person just suits me better on a pad!

Indeed seems weird that it only shows controller prompts. Probably a patch to solve that

Heh, not at all ;)

I am an unabashed champion of kb&m for *everything* on PC. I'm fully aware plenty of people find that a bit strange, and quite happily play up to the banter about that. :)

The first Nioh had great kb&m support. Certainly by the time I got around to playing it, it just worked perfectly fine (provided you had a controller plugged in even if you didn't use it, for some reason).

Although... now I think about it - I say that it only showing controller prompts is not a big deal, but I am pretty sure I was moaning about another game doing the exact same thing not that long ago.

Ahh... MGS Phantom Pain, that was it! I did complain about that issue on these forums only a year ago.

I guess I am not very consistent! :o

you can edit the file in Documents\KoeiTecmo\NIOH2\config.xml and set different resolutions

my monitor is 3840x1600 so 3440x1440 and fullscreen works fine

can you respec both points and skills later on? Just started using sword + dual sword which share 2 stats

If you haven't played Sekiro don't miss on that game. It really is fantastic.

Only mention it because it has similarities.

I'm interested to see if this is any good whilst I wait for Elden Ring to appear.

Caved and got it. I have a very high end rig. Plays lovely and I got it running @1440p ultrawide OK.
Finding time to get into it deep is another matter. Have Sekiro. Not started that yet. I'm so bad. I want, I get and sit & wait for that perfect moment to play and it never happens . I'm getting old.

Sekiro is hard. I nearly stopped playing it within the first 2hrs. But thank god I preserved and finished the game about 160hrs later.

It's a very good game. Was GOTY for 2019.

Sekiro is currently my absolute favourite game of all time, and Nioh2 is similar. So I'm supposed to want it, but I just don't, looking for a second hand PS4 pro with Ghost of Tsushima instead. I have two problems with Nioh2 (before even playing it) - 1) it's mostly about fighting monsters instead of sword-vs-sword samurai stuff, and 2) the off-putting xmas lights diarrhea where there are massive colourful explosions every time you touch the enemy.
