People want sports cars, but buy boring stuff because most people are sheep. Then they want their boring stuff to be "sporty". So we have a load of SUVs with a horrible ride quality with tat glued to them, fake exhaust noise, etc.

Oh Shepherd, but sports cars with 2 seats or at best 2+2 have limited appeal.

Lol joke post? People do want sports cars, myself included however there is something called affordability and running costs/repair costs comparing Sports cars (Genuine ones) is considerably more than say running a Golf/Polo/Ibiza/Corsa/Leon etc

I think that's more to do with the industry playing it safe than what a portion of the market truly want
