Anyone owned one of the previous shapes, not the new one?
What experiences did you have?

Owned a P10 and two P11's and one of the later P12's.

Nice car's overall giving excellent value for money. Mostly bulletproof chain driven engines that give good performance and economy. As mentioned before generally very reliable cars. Easy to maintain yourself and do lots of miles before they become uneconomically viable to repair. Tidy handling and a 150bhp fast GT model available. Good prices and lots of full service history, one owner models available from elderly owners. Worth looking for clean oil during inspection as timing chain failure has been known on poorly maintained exmples.

On the down side they are very bland in their styling and have a rather dull image. ABS can play up leaving you intermitently with no brakes, can cost a mint to put right. SRi's play at being GT's but do not share the 150bhp engine. Suspensions start to give a rough ride with high miles. Avoid 1.6 it is underpowered. Interiors not as pretty as a Mondeo's.

I've had a P11-144 Sport+ for approx 5 months and agree with all the comments made, the styling is bland as hell but I bought it for the known reliability, economy and amount of gadgets I got for a bargain price.

Very nice car to drive if a bit uninvolving.

We've had both the GT and still own an Si P11.

The GT did 60k without any fault, great car to drive, i even liked the looks with the kit on it.

Our Si which is now being used as a second car we have had from new has now done over 140k, with just normal servicing, still on the original clutch / gearbox / camchain etc etc.

Great cars neither have ever let us down nor failed to start on the first turn of the key regardless of the weather.

Thats exactly why Im considering one, I need a comfy reliable car, styling and performance are not as important. These cars are mega cheap, I was quite surprised.

Thanks for the feedback guys, you've confirmed what I read elsewhere and that is good news :)

The Sport+ has a 6 speed auto which is tempting for my stop-start daily drive.

Which years/shape are the P10, P11 and P12?

my family car is a 1.6lx P10. M reg.

only issues we have had are:

starter motor was dying and apparently they hard to replace... got it reconditioned instead
suspension knocks (for a very old car that ain't strange! lol)
and stalling as you slow down (this is very dangerous)

the later still not fixed because it never happends when my dads around so he doesnt believe its happening...... :p

Third Opinion, thanks for that.
Anyone know the width and length of the P11, Parkers seems to vary a lot between the pre and post facelift models?

I want to check it'll go in the garage.

P11 GT

Yes, some say they are bland, the interior is traditionally Jap but they are very reliable and dirt cheep.

Pop over to www.npoc.co.uk (Nissan Primera Owners Club) sometime and have a look, some good advice on there and a lot of people in the know about Prims.

Some pics of my 2000 P11 GT on flickr - Clicky
