Nitro R/C Car Help

To people wanting to get a nitro rc: don't :)

Unless you have a lot of money to waste, that is, on fuel, parts, sliced tyers and smashed gears.

HAHAHAHA! I'd love to see a guy getting a 1/5 and not knowing a thing about starting it or running it. What would be even funnier is getting one without the servos, then buying normal servos and posting here how the poor thing blew up when he tried a right turn :D

Anyway, aren't these sluggish and slow? :p I got an el-cheapo heli back home, I am going to tune it up a bit and learn to fly :D No more buggies or roadcars for me.

Oh and if anyone wants a tamiya 4wd onroad racing gimme a shout ;)

yup you have to use poweful quarter scale servos for steering, and 13kg+ for throttle/brake. Failsafe is a must.
No they're not sluggish or slow, acceleration is faster than a nitro, nitro picks up quicker mid-band, but petrol has upper end torque (depending on gearing also) Petrol has a lot more torque, can be standstill at a hill and climb straight away (nitro requires a build up speed) Can climb quarry sides. I plowed through a fence once.

These aren't toys though, someone broke both legs of a fully grown policeman. Can do 35-40mph stock...seeing one of these do those speeds is scary  . Upto 70-80mph for the road cars. Generally tougher during light rolls, but will do more damage on the heavier lands.

Yeah, that explains the diskbrakes a formula1 1/5 had on, if they can do 80mph you gonna need a lot of force to stop it! How noisy are they?

They have a 26cc petrol engine so fairly easy to get a idea, a bit louder if you have a pipe. Not that bad, although wouldn't use past 6pm. If anyone complains before 6pm tell them to go away, unless you're being unreasoble ie driving close to their house....they wouldn't complain about people using petrol lawnmowers, chainsaws etc would they?

They dont scream like nitros do, they have a low gruntier noise. It didn't seem that much louder then say like a 1/8 truck makes with a tuned pipe.

So squiffy, you on MB?

Complain? If I saw a dude with a chainsaw running around the street I would lock my door and hide :p

heh. What I mean that people do complain about noise of nitro planes/cars. Ie a old bat a good 400m complained about a tiny .15 sized model planes and cars, yet people next door to her were using petrol lawnmowers, and had a main road right next to her. You couldn't hear the model engines over the other noise. People never complain about landscape gardeners using petrol driven tools all day so really people complaining against model car/heli/planes have nothing better to do.

If I had one I would keep going past fixed cameras doing 60mph in a 30 mph zone :) that would really **** the police off ;)

The other day we decided to see how fast my mates Hyper 7 Sport was and my RC18T. We decided the best way was to chace after the rc car with a full size car, the person controlling the rc car hanging out the passenger window. :p We did get some funny looks in the industrial estate we were doing it in. :D

Hyper 7 Sport got 44-45mph. RC18T got 28mph iirc.

Yeah dude I know you mean I was just messing ;) I had a little rc speedboat, used to get loads of complaints, but I simply ignored them :D

Hiya,

Have had the thing going today, was indeed running too rich. Understand how to mix the fuel / air now so its a bit easier to realise why certain things happen :)

I was taking it easy no full throttle as apprently they need to brake in ? let it idle for quite a while aswell (1 and 1/2 tanks) as instructed.

Unfortunatly it got dark after this brake in process so i didnt get chance to take it somewhere open to have a play.

Seems to start dead easy now, but i dont think the brakes are very good. If i tighten up the brake spring then it tends to stop the wheels turning at idle and the engine stalls. So i have them quite weak.. better not run it at full speed towards a solid object :p

Yeah the standard brake disc is useless, really you need to upgrade it to the better one, then it will brake much better.

Also remember you will most probably have to lean it out slightly more when you start using full throttle.
