No access to drives and No Internet on VPN access - Windows Server 2012

I've not played with Server 2012 yet, but you'd expect the server to be handling the DNS side of things (and probably DHCP as well, but that doesn't matter in the same way). It could (probably is) be causing your problems.

Have you run the BPA on the server to check for configuration issues?

Sorry, just checked and server was handling DNS but not DHCP so I've just setup DHCP and disabled it on the router. Will try BPA now.

Just going through the BPA warnings now but one of the errors is the use of 127.0.0.1 as the dns server address...it's saying that shouldn't be the first DNS server?

You can take that with a pinch of salt. It doesn't really make sense if you've only got a single server.

You want the server handling DNS and referring only to to itself. The client machines should only be using the server for DNS.

have spent the past hour and a half following an online guide to setting up DirectAccess...Now I have access to the shared drives on the server but the VPN connection is now taking a VERY long time to identify and is getting a 169.254 IP address.
