I get my no claims bonus every March thanks to Directlines named driver discount but I took new insurance in my own name in November, and that renews every November. This November I intend to delare SORN, and not pay any insurance for 3 months as they are charging £700 plus road tax (which happens to be in the same month) and I have no idea where I will get the money from so this is my solution, will grab a lift from a friend to travel. Do I still accrue no claims bonus in those 3 months where I am not paying car insurance? :)

I don't totally understand the wording of your post, but no, you don't accrue NCB when you don't have a policy running.

Endsleigh have a student policy where you can take the car off the road term-time, and STILL earn NCB at that time. :)

When I was about 20 and walking to work, I kept a Nova insured that was parked up SORN outside my house. This is probably totally illegal and insurance fraud of some sort, but it accrued me 2 years of NCD while I was a pedestrian.

Why don't you declare the car SORN and just keep the policy running for three months to get another year's NCB? Surely you'll save more in the long run with a cheaper quote next year.

If your SORN'ing it and storing it off road, get a "lay up" insurance policy - effectively only a "fire and theft policy" - I have one running on the Westfield - i.e. it's not insured to drive on the road but is covered if it get's nicked or bursts into flames - and of course I'm still accruing an NCB on it. Cost £45 for the year.
