I had a small accident this year. A woman slammed on at the lights and I went into the back of her car. Not much damage to her car. She made a claim. As a result of that my no claims has gone down to 4 years (it would have been at 7). My insurance company have added and extra £250 on this years quote.

So my question is if I would have took protection out on my no claims would i still be getting the extra £250 added on? Or does the no claims protection just protect the no claim years?

Not directly answering your question, but have you tried getting a new quote online with the same insurer? Chances are that it won't be as expensive as your renewal.

I've often wondered this. I have never protected my no claims (it costs to do in the first place), but wonder if if/when a claim is made (fault or non-fault) does the premium increase?

I would bet it does and you are no better off.

Never tried any quotes though.
