No drivers for Windows 10?

"Also, if your PC runs into problems, Microsoft will likely examine your system files. If the privacy of your system files is a concern, consider using a different PC. For more info, read our privacy statement."

Sorry mate

EDIT: On the MS website, under "before you install" section of preview

It don't think it's anything new, it's the same as when Windows asks an error has occurred do you want to send a report to MS.It doesn't necessarily mean MS will access your system remotely - diagnostic tools will already be on the system. And if they did, they wouldn't access your PC without your permission.

System files does not equal personal files.

As we are getting an early look into Windows 10, I have no issue at all with helping MS. Software is so complex these days, especially operating systems supporting all sorts of hardware and types of users, the best way to test it is to get it out there for people to try and be able to gather as much information as possible about the problems that arise and uses of the software -ideally in an automated fashion.

Anyone installing windows 10 at the moment should read the terms before using it for anything other than testing.

Permission to Keylog (windows 10 privacy policy)

Is that just for the beta/preview?

Personal Data Collection

That's all right, because I'm sure that Microsoft is never, ever going to suffer a data breach on their servers.

Who cares? If it improves the os they can snoop at my prone collection all they want. Hahaha.

just been playing some games, not what I would call smooth as butter but not bad.

May be because I turned my overclock off.

This ^^

Never really understood the whole issue with governments/etc seeing peoples personal data/email/things, some people seem to just get worked up over the prospect of somebody they will never meet in their entire life seeing information about them, when at the end of the day the only people who have anything to actually care about are criminals and I am not one /shrug.

Please don't vote. :(

Time and time again, we see that data being misused, via mission creep or data security leaks. It's a slippery slope, and the "nothing to hide" argument isn't a substitute for privacy. There's a reason why a right to privacy is enshrined in so many goverments or rights acts around the world.

How about you let someone you don't know at Microsoft's outsourced call centre look through your bank accounts or, online passwords? How about they see those racy pictures of your wife you've backed up from your phone? How about you let people look through your cupboards, or tell them your kid's names and where they go to school? Let's put a reporting GPS in your car so we see where you go and can ticket you for being over the speed limit or parking where you shouldn't? Let's sell your details and have annoying marketing calls every day. After all, you've got nothing to hide, right?

Although we understand what you are saying, lets not get carried away here.

This is Microsoft saying that if you would like to use this early developer release of Windows 10, then you agree to them knowing certain things about your computing usage. If you dont want Microsoft to know these things, then dont use the developer release of Windows 10.

Exactly.

Doesn't really seem like you understand fully, everyone has some information they would like to keep secret.

From what you said, you don't want to hide:
  • passwords
  • credit card numbers
  • email addresses
  • personal documents
 (only criminals hide their passwords according to what you said)
All are things that Microsoft could obtain from that license you agree to.
Do you people even understand what a keylogger is?

I agree with this, just wanted to make sure people know what they are agreeing to when installing the preview as I've had a lot of microsoft lemming style followers tell me they have windows 10 as if it's an achievement and also without reading any of the license agreements.

I think the one thing that is wrong is the "I have nothing to hide" attitude.
People can't seriously be that dumb or naive

No offence but I think its you who isn't fully understanding here, Microsoft are not planning to snoop on peoples passwords or cads numbers, the description you quoted earlier is not a key logger, it's something called autocomplete (which Google and others have been using for years).

Here: I will break it down for you:

If you open a file, we may collect information about the file, the application used to open the file, and how long it takes any use [of] it for purposes such as improving performance - they will recives info like user032948758734 opened a 2MB .bmp file and used GIMP to do it, it took X seconds

or [if you] enter text, we may collect typed characters, we may collect typed characters and use them for purposes such as improving autocomplete and spell check features - The program will remember things typed so it can suggest them later to save you time

--------------

It's kind of lol that some people are reacting like "OMG we're participating in an open beta test and they expect to collect feedback about what we're doing, ermagawd" :P

Keyloggers don't know what they are logging so YES they WILL log EVERY keystroke whether it is a password, credit card number or address

You people are seriously putting a HUGE amount of trust into microsoft.

Also what you posted earlier about not having anything to hide is the most stupid thought in society today when it comes to privacy.

You might try to turn it around with your trolly / jokey use of "ermagawd" etc but it doesn't change anything that we have said.
In the context of the agreement they may log everything you type.
[if you] enter text, we may collect typed characters
As it doesn't specifically say which programs, this could be any application within the OS (including the web browser)
