Hmmm, just read this on 1up.
Came as a bit of a surprise.
Sounds quite definite with the word "ever" written on it.
Maybe this belongs in the PC section, but I thought people in here may be interested to know it too.

I did get Gears of War for the PC.
Despite starting it twice, I've never bothered to play it until the end. I do enjoy it, up to a point, then I just seem to get bored.
That being the case, I am sad that it isn't going to come to PC, but, I also aren't too concerned about it either.

Then again, with some of the comments I've read from Cliffy B, especially regarding UT3 sales on PC, I can't say I'm surprised.

Epic: No Gears of War 2 for PC
Epic's highly anticipated sequel will forever remain a 360 exclusive

If you want to play Gears of War 2, it turns out your options will begin and end with the Xbox 360 on November 7. IGN had a chat with Epic Games lead designer Cliff Bleszinski, who revealed that there will not be a PC port of the 360 sequel. Ever.

"Gears of War is a great franchise first and foremost for Xbox 360, and therefore we're focusing on that platform for Gears of War 2. We've decided we're not going to do a PC version this time around," said Bleszinski in the interview.

Gears of War was ported to the PC last November, a full year after it debuted on the Xbox 360 in 2006. While it was generally well-received (and added content not included in the 360 version), the main complaint was that the console-developed shooter -- designed from the ground up to be played with a controller -- didn't translate smoothly to a mouse and keyboard. Taking this into consideration... is it really bad news that there won't be a PC port in the future?

I wonder if this is like the "no gears of war for the PC" last time around, Epic even said this a month before the official reveal, and much like the no pc version of GTA4 and Mass effect. It wouldnt be in Epics (or Microsofts) interest to announce a PC version now, as some of the 360 owners may also have a PC capable of playing it and the decision to wait for a possible enhanced PC version (like gears 1) would affect sales of the 360 version.

Quite right.
It was the word "ever" that got my attention this time... along with the memories of Cliffy B's megawhinging about the PC after UT3 failed to sell as well as he'd hoped. (I dunno why, I bought the PC version of UT3, and think it's great fun, and looks fantastic too)

Anyway, we'll wait and see.

and, btw. the reason I posted this in the console section, is because I figured there is more than one person like me, who has a PC and a PS3, and who plays a lot of the 360 exclusives on his PC. ;) So thought it may be interesting to them.

I certainly won't be buying another 360 just to play GOW2 myself, but I guess this is exactly why they always refuse to admit a PC version is possible in the future... as they hope the games will sell more consoles. If PC owners want to play the games, and it looks like no PC version is coming, maybe they'll buy a 360, rather than sit back and wait for the PC version with enhanced gfx anyway.

Vin.

Console games rarely port well to PC anyway, so it doesn't matter.

I did play Gears of War on the PC and 360, right beside each other.
I personally found the PC version to be superior.

My opinion of course, but I did try them side by side just for interests sake.

The PC graphics were considerably better also, as well as having the complete story of course.

Vin.

i supose it leaves them to concentrate harder on just making one version and getting the most out of with without thinking is that possible on anothet platform all the time.

That's what they want you to think. There will be a PC version. It makes sense they make statements like this now to avoid people holding off for the graphically "superior" PC version, as I guess people may think they are lying after saying the same last time round and releasing a better PC version (in terms of content) 6 months-ish later ?

Although I played Gears1 on my mates PC (to see the extra content). He had 360 controller so it felt the same BUT his PC was crappy (or settings wrong) so it was tearing a lot (I hate tearing!!!)

They said that last time. Mind you, rampant piracy and low sales of the first game on the PC makes for a compelling argument not to port the sequel this time around.

Surely it is too soon for Microsoft to start pulling games off the Live for Windows platform, I actually think them making Live for Windows free will mean they push more games to that platform.

It'll come out on pc. They just say this so pc owners will buy the 360 version instead of waiting. They're tricking us to make more money. Its sleazy.

In fairness, that sounds about spot on.

I guess it would be in their best interests to get a PC version out, after the 360 version has sold as many units as possible.

Vin.

Yeah, plus with LIVE on PC being free now, I see more sales of Geasr2 than Gears1. A lot of people do not want to pay to play on consoles so now the PC equivalent is free i suspect more sales of online Games for Windows titles. (Which I am sure is the motivation for making it free recently).

After the hissy fit epic had due to poor UT3 sales i doubt they personally will bother porting it over to the PC... wouldn't be surprised if they outsourced it though.

I know what you mean, and this was my initial thought when I read the 1up post about no pc version.

However, what with it using (I guess?) the UT3 engine (or a modified one at least) which always exists and runs brilliantly on the PC, I don't know much work it would actually be to get it running on the PC?

Even my not at all high spec PC can play Gears of War and UT3 with max details at 1680x1050 without breaking a sweat.

Really wouldn't surprise me.
I went in the flagship Oxford Street store of one of the UKs largest high street video games stores a few days ago; I personally haven't bought a PC Game in years and it really didn't surprise me to see that the PC Game section was a tiny little section in the back corner.
