No harddrive detected

I have just upgraded the kids PC with an ASUS A8V Deluxe mobo and a Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 sata2 hd.

I don't know if I am doing something stupid, but I cannot get the bios to see the hd. This is the first time I have used an ASUS board, so the bios is a bit unfamiliar.

I have tried both the via and promise connectors and am now beginning to wonder if the hd is borked. I can here it whirring, so it has power and I tried it in my machine, but that didn't detect it either.

Can anyone offer any help please

I don't think I have these, where would I get them from (the hd was oem and arrived as just the bare drive) :confused:

Is this a driver issue if the bios just isn't detecting the drive on first start-up (ie windows hasn't been installed yet)?

I can't find the drivers in a floppy disc format on the ASUS site :confused:

Thanks for that, I will try those drivers when I get home tonight. I did clear the CMOS and as far as I can tell both the via and promise controllers are enabled. However, this is my first ASUS mobo and the bios is a bit unfamiliar. For a single SATA hd on the via controller, can you tell me how the bios should be set?

No, the via screen doesn't show anything. I have flashed the bios and loaded the via drivers, but still no luck. HD is about to be RMAed

and will see how I get on with a new drive.

Yes, although it didn't have a jumper, I found one and the seagate instructions in their FAQ - and that didn't work either :confused:

Update. It was a dodgy drive. I RMA'ed it to Seagate and a new one arrived today. Put it in the PC and away we went with no problems.
