I have googled a few fixes but I cannot get the hibernate option to appear.

I always thought this was more of a motherboard issue rather then Windows?

Have you tried this?: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/920730

To make hibernation available, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, and then type cmd in the Start Search box.
2. In the search results list, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as Administrator.
3. When you are prompted by User Account Control, click Continue.
4. At the command prompt, type powercfg.exe /hibernate on, and then press Enter.
5. Type exit, and then press Enter to close the Command Prompt window.

Assuming drivers etc. are in place, in order to expose the hibernate option do the following:

1 - Search for "power"
2 - Click on "change what the power buttons do"
3 - Click on "change settings that are not currently available"
4 - Tick "show hibernate in power menu"

Sleep is the better option, but as documented in a number of threads simply doesn't work reliably on my motherboard so I have to use hibernate as an alternative.

I will try this out I am on Windows 8.

I use sleep but it wakes up at random times and it is very annoying.

To stop unexpected wake from sleep check the power options for your mouse, keyboard and network card in device manager.

Also search for change automatic maintenance settings and make sure that allow scheduled maintenance to wake my computer is un-ticked.

If it's still waking unexpectedly, open an administrative command prompt and type powercfg -lastwake this will tell you what the last event that woke the computer was.
