No life after shipping - mobo or cpu - where to begin?

Psu is modular and takes US power supply, I made sure I checked beforehand.

RAM was fine before the move so I have no reason to believe it wouldn't be now, was still in the slots after travelling. I need to try and check a stick somewhere else which could prove difficult.

Other than that a new cpu it is by the looks of things... :(

CPU is extremely hard to break, where as I'm pretty sure ram is quite fragile.

You could always sell your 4GB set and buy a proper tri channel 6GB set? That way it would be an upgrade at the same time.

Also have you tried each stick on it's own in the motherboard in each slot? Sorry if you have didn't wanna read through the whole thread again. :)

Fair point.

I've tried both sticks separately in only the 2nd (DDR3_1) slot. I'll try the other slots this evening to se if I getny response.

And agreed it would e an upgrade which I was looking to do anyway. Saying that I've found i7 950 for $199 - far too tempting!

Now I have to decide on which tri-channel RAM to get - any recommendations?

Right, tried all RAM separately in each slot and still nothing. Brought it into to work for m8 in the IT department to test and works fine.

So...it looks like it must be the cpu.

Time to get a that one I had my eye on...

Ok go the new cpu and now I'm really confused.

Installed all and just had cpu, ram and psu. Boot up and get exactly same response as before, everything spins up but no beeps.

So I then added the gfx card (xfx 5850) just to see if there would be any response with only 1 power lead going in to it (6 pin (card) to 8 pin (psu)) and booted. Got a continous beep...hurray life...which won't stop until I power the machine off.....not hurray!

Added another power lead to the gfx card (6 pin to 6pin), boot the machine and get the nothing at all as before with all fans spinning (madly on the card) and leds lit up.

So now I'm totally confused and literally have no idea wtf is going on. How come it's beeping/posting with only 1 power lead in to the gfx card? Do I need to get another 6 to 8pin connector (didn't have an extra one in the previous build)? Why is it not posting at all other times?

Could it be the cpu 8pin power lead is faulty so cpu getting no power so not posting? Suppose finalthing would be to try another psu?

All help would be very much appreciated as this is just getting silly... :(

Can post some pics if that would assist.
