No Man's Sky

The 18 quintillion planets makes the size of the NMS 'universe' probably a fair bit larger than the Milky Way we're in. It's big.

How long it takes to get to the center will depend entirely on what warp/jump technology you can get on your ships. I've avoided all the leaks so no idea what this guy has been doing, but I would guess he's been making a pretty direct bee-line for the center. I plan on just mooching about meandering vaguely in that direct rather then running for the finish so expect it to last a fair bit longer :)

Oh yeah I know it is big, I was simply querying Suicidal Ferrets comment that he only got to the centre of HIS galaxy. However, as I understood it there is only one (possibly larger than real galaxies) galaxy. So it is a binary did or didn't get to the centre rather than he got to the wrong centre. Though I haven't been keeping right up to date with all the developments so may be out of date with my knowledge of content.

You are right though that he went straight for the centre but like you I plan on meandering around. Certainly for the first few solar systems I would quite like to visit every planet and fly around to see the diversity of it all.

I thought his post was very unbiased, at least he has played it, don't see how (or why) people get so defensive over something they have never played thus have nothing to go on.

Agreed. On the balance of it, his review was rather positive too as it sounds like his major gripes are simply bugs (which really, what game comes out these days without them) rather than being an issue with the core gameplay or mechanics.

Are terminologies getting mixed up with this game?

I thought the overall objective is to reach the centre of the "universe" not a galaxy? i.e. there are multiple galaxies in a universe so getting to the centre of a galaxy is not really that far into the game as such??

This is what I am trying to work out but I think so. I think NMS has been referred to as a "universe" simply as the gaming term for everything in it (or it could be for its size being so much larger than a real galaxy). However, I think using existing terms it is more like a galaxy, being that it is space filled with millions and millions of solar systems.

So before I jump in, I want to understand how "multiplayer" works. My friends are getting it on PS4 but I have a PC (and I prefer XB1 pad) beefy enough (1080gtx is probably overkill mind :p ) to play it. Will it be possible to meet with friends? Are PC and PS4 in the same "universe"?

Don't know about PS4/PC in the same universe, I would think so though. Having said that players start at random points along a/the galaxies edge & given the size of it they've said it'll be very unlikely you will meet another player. If you do though there is no in game chat function.

Think theres a day 1 patch anyway, this guy is playing unpatched I would presume.

On the subject of galaxies, the general opinion is that there is multiple galaxies, think its been confirmed as well.

New footage

From the footage I have seen so far the bugs are very minor and I can see them being fixed quickly by HG.

I will not be rushing to the centre. My plan is to search for some cool planets do some exploring and find some good trade roots to enable me to buy new tech before even starting to think about getting to the centre.

If anything all 3 of the streamers of the finished game have raised my expectations of the game, it seems much deeper mechanics than I expected.
