No messing about with roms tablet?

Ridiculous! Thats your opinion bud, but I speak the truth. Are you saying Apple devices never brake and all the Apps work flawlessly?

So you're saying your iPhone 4 broke 3 times? Do you think Android phones never break or something? Surely you realise (assuming you're telling the truth) that you were extremely unlucky?

Actually, I've never found an app that doesn't work (on every single iPhone to date). Unfortunately the same can't be said for Android.

I have tried Android and iOS phones and tablets and can't say I am greatly enamoured with either. Both ecosystems have their faults and failings.

Some thoughts...

iOS: App launcher (grid of icons) is nothing special and apps don't talk to each other anywhere near as much as they should be able to. There is a lack of integration of basic features like person interaction collation (email, phone, texts, FB, Twitter, etc) that really should exist on iOS (and does on WP7). Everything feels so separate and segregated.

Android: Tried Samsung, Motorola and HTC devices. They all lacked the 'premium feel' and felt like cheap, plasticky devices. Some manufacturers try to put a pretty skin on top of the base OS and it works ok but I wasn't so keen on the Linux Gnome/KDE feel of the UI. Some hardware performed really badly when just doing basic things within the OS.

Yes it broke 3 times, first the camera died, then the screen died, then the screen went faulty again along with contant random reboots, I sold the 4th straight away.

I experienced lots of issues with apps like Copilot which never worked smoothly or properly & always crashed. Games which just didn't work at all or crashed repeatedly.

Yes Android has lots of similar faults but overall I am happier now, thats all that matters. :p

I had an iPhone 4 for 12 months, actually I had 4 of them because they kept braking but there were loads of things/apps that didn't "JUST WORK" its a load of old Apple spiel cobblers!!

Got annoyed after the 12 months of if you can't beat them join them atitude but soon got bored and signed up to Android.. Not looked back since!!

I've had every iphone, the only faulty I ever had was on a 3G where the back cracked a little, I took it to an apple store and they swapped it on the spot.

My HTC Desire dropped calls for fun, my galaxy s rebooted constantly, my s2 couldn't do dtmf tones properly so you couldn't log into conference calls etc etc.

My Nokia 5110 had a faulty elastomer, my T28 would keep its flip closed, my 7110 used to switch itself off, my startac used to drop the big sim card out the bottom of it, my 6300 used to have to go in the freezer before I could turn it on.

Whats your point? I meant just work along the lines of taking an ipad out of the box, sticking it on your wifi network, logging into your itunes account then off you go which whether you like it or not is the experience that I'd bet the vast majority of people have.

More to the point if you buy an apple product raher than having to go an argue it out with whatever shop you bought it in, get it sent off for repair etc etc etc you just stroll into an apple shop and chances are you'll stroll out with a new device.

That's fair enough, but that isn't a common issue with the device, they aren't particularly unreliable. The benefit is that if it does break, Apple will instantly swap it for you in a store, which is excellent.

As for apps, I've found app crashes to be fairly rare and I've never found one that doesn't work. Maybe that particular version of CoPilot was bugged or something.

See these arguments/debates never end! hehe

Its ok if there is an Apple shop close by, for me it was a 70mile round trip every time it broke!

My initial point was its each to their own but as usual it turns into a big debate, which is fun, Its always fun telling people their iDevices is inferior. If looks could kill. hehe

I don't have to fart around with my TF101. It just works. Fair enough if you want 3g and not willing to tether (which is free incidentally on Android rather than being charged monthly for the privilege on iOS) then iPad is the better choice.

I don't pay for my tethering
-edit-
Already been said i see, its free now on o2, three and i got it free on my old tmobile contract although others say they don't.

Are you going to keep up these silly comments?

I'm not really arguing, I'm saying that Android is good for some people, and iOS is good for some people. There is no superior system - surely this is obvious.

Telling people their iDevice is inferior just makes you look bitter, they probably don't think much of you for it. Unless you were joking - it's hard to tell.

It was a joke fella, calm down! LOL

Isn't this what I just said but in different words, each to their own etc....

I take it back then, its all changed since I had my iphone, you had to pay an extra £10 for o2 tethering which I never did as it was a rip off.

I have a question vaguely related to the OP, plus it will save making another thread.

I wonder if the advent of windows 8 will give us some decent windows tablets? Because that would be awesome, proper compatibility with my htpc and laptop etc. And still no messing around with rooting it etc, just the use of the thousands of programs available to the PC, which I assume is greater than the IOS and Android markets?

Anyone got any news on this perchance?

Star, thanks.:)

Looks very cool, if they gave you the option of a more traditional desktop for mouse and keyboard use, that would be awesome. Imagine a desktop slot for the tablet which connects you to a lan, a 32" lcd, speakers, a keyboard and mouse, printer...Then, when you're finished with work, or playing killing floor, you just pick it up and take it to the lounge to browse the net, or plug it into the desktop stand for your 47" led tv...

Hnnnggggg!

And that's perfectly fine, I said in the first line it's not for everyone, but overall it is better.

This isn't a discussion about what is better anyway, it's a discussion about what is better for the OP. Someone who sounds like they can't be bothered with any faffing is going to benefit from having an iPad. Quite simple really.

This is it, I faff around enough with linux on my pc for my geekness. I want my tablet to get regular updates and "just work".
