are you saying you simply don't buy things if they work? are you saying your pc is 10 years old? how about your car? over 10 years old? just because someone wants a new phone does not make him a planet killer... man get a grip, we all have are vices and toys, and you know what its ok... sure you make phone calls on your 10 year old phone, others like a little more, ie email/web/games/music/video/wifi/social networking/sat nav...ect ect ect

I think you need to go back and look at all of the posts I have written in this thread young man and not respond to what you think I may have said. Really some people.
 
i read them all pops, all im saying is dont cast judgement on peoples vices, i would understand your stance if you lived in a tent in some eco village, but as i said i bet you have the the good stuff in some area of your life, we all do.... some like new cars, some like new phones, pc's or whatever, the fact remains the old one properly still works... its life

And what I said though you have failed to acknowledge this is that when you get older your attitudes change and you realise that perhaps what you already have works just fine. Again as I said before, why do you think that all these devices are aimed at the young market? Yes that's right, because they know you can't resist buying them. If you realise this before you get older then you could save a shed load of money and still be content with what you have.
 
i see what you, but there is something being made, aimed and sold to all generations, you being older does not make you immune i am afraid, your toys just become bigger and you can justify things more.

like i said how old is your car? and what was wrong with the one before? see my point.

Well my present car is now just over three years old. I will probably change it when it reaches 100,000 miles or 5 years whichever comes first. My last car was 7 years old when I changed it and had done 115,000 miles and was changed because it was no longer economic to repair it. Most of those miles are done for business which I get an allowance for. Until I changed my TVs four years ago the old ones were 23 years old and 19 years old respectively and the microwave was 23 years young. I don't think you can argue that I don't get my monies worth can you.

If you do a bit of research you will also find that smartphones and kit of that ilk are aimed at the younger market. As I say we have all been guilty at some point in our lives (usually when we are younger) of getting sucked in but getting older (note I didn't say old) does change your perspective and perhaps provides you with a bit more wisdom.

Of which I have purchased many such products from said company. However, as said previously, once purchased I then get my monies worth. With age comes wisdom (well to some it does) and one then sees the futility and waste of being sucked in by all the hype. I think that once Autumn arrives and the public then see for themselves just how bad the cuts are going to be and how they are going to effect everyone, this will act as a natural brake and choke off demand in any event.

Same applies to energy costs - we are likely to see 40% increases in the costs for energy over the coming few years. I tell you the phone industry like most other companies are in for a very lean time.
 
Just to get back on topic, and keep Faustus happy, I'm probably going to stick with my Hero now that 2.1's eventually out, and go for an Orange Dolphin SIM only rolling 1 month contract, £20 for 500 mins, unlimited texts, and 500mb internet. :D

Life's pointless if you don't do the things you enjoy. If that's a new phone whilst you're young, so be it. I've spent plenty on upgrading my PC for the last 4 or so years, not because a company made me want it, or feel it was the next big thing, but because upgrading the machine and playing the latest games makes me happy. If you're saying that won't when I'm 50 I'd probably agree, I'll have other priorities then. I'm not going to spend probably the most enjoyable years of my life 'making do' when I could be enjoying them instead. Life's too short for that, and I hope I have no regrets later on as I was doing what I wanted to do.

On topic, the Hero is still a pretty good phone. I've also noticed the lack of 12 month contracts and it's annoying that they're not around any longer. I don't mind 18 month deals, but good deals are so slim atm. I got a great deal on an E71 and contract with 3 about 12 months ago but there's nothing close this year, even the E71 deals now are the same price or more expensive. The E72 is even more. There's definitely been a shift in the way mobile phone companies do business. I think I might keep this phone until I really want something better now. Perhaps a SIM only contract.

i paid £300 off ebay for new desire, lot of cash, but if your sim only that's the way fwd i think, using ebay i sold my old phone to off set the cost, when i upgrade next i will sell the desire, its a bit like getting in the car/house market and trading up, but balls to signing up to £40 a month contracts for two years!
