No more sockets on router

hiya Folks

I may be overthinking

but I have ran out of network sockets on my netgear router. what do I need to add a couple more.

Powerline
CCTV dvr
Backup drive
upstairs PC

Need to add my work server

Is it just a switch I need or a hub???

Switch would be better than a hub, dedicated bandwidth per port and each device will be in its own collision domain so reduced or no collisions.

Is it even possible to get hubs anymore? I haven't seen any anywhere for ages...

plug and play wise, they'll basically do the same thing, but switches do it better, but due to being more complicated tend to cost more, but with the evolution of technology, the price difference has decreased, so hubs aren't as readily available as the price was the only advantage over a switch.

Hubs are old technology and not really sold much to be honest, just pointing out just incase OP picks one up second hand.

buy an 8 port gigabit switch, then plug everything into that (everything that has a gigabit connection)

They'll all pretty much the same, but people have their favorites, I personally like Netgear stuff, as I have had quite a lot of stuff from them, and it's all worked great (and still is years laters). Just have a look at user reviews for whichever one you think you want to get.

Lots of people use the terms interchangeably. Really annoys me!

HP ProCurve is the best value

Thanks guys bought a netgear 8 from a competitor (paid for sat del turned up Mon) I wont stray from overclockers again. LOL
