Nope, dead easy.

You get pulled over, and get a producer. If you can't produce an MOT within 7 days you get charged for driving without an MOT.

But the issue date of the MOT would be after the date the cops stopped you. It would be supremely obvious to them that you got an MOT done in the week after they stopped you, but before handing it in. The MOT system is entirely computer driven now, so you can't even get a friendly mechanic mate to backdate an MOT anymore (afaik).

You'd get fined for driving without an MOT on the date you were stopped.

You would assume so wouldn't you!

I just didn't show my MOT certificate because the woman behind the desk didn't even ask for it :/

Nope.

Wouldnt it?

Because technically you could be driving an un-roadworthy car?

Just because it doesn't have a current MOT doesn't make it "un-roadworthy", although I understand your logic.

For example, my car was a month late for its MOT, it passed without any concerns when I MOT'd it, so in theory it was never "un-roadworthy", I just didn't have a peice of paper.

MOT certificate says it was roadworthy on the day of the test - that's all.

Not with all the mot's being computerised now, even the dvla website will tell you if a cars currently mot'd i think...
:)

It will compromise your insurance........regardless of whether the car is roadworthy or not.

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) says that insurance policies will still pay out in full on any third party claims and in the case of damage to or theft of your own vehicle, payouts may be reduced to reflect the lower market value of a car without an MoT (or depending, they may not pay out at all as stated by your policy.)

You shouldn't recieve any penalty unless you've been caught or camere'd - my dad did similar for 4 months commuting to work, totally forgot the Merc required MOTing......Not a problem (got it re-mot'd as soon as he remembered!).
