No need for a diesel!

Imagine a photo of my vRS dash saying 29.9 mpg.

That's what I get on a run up/down the M40. I am glad to have the thing, not sure how accurate, but relatively it's interesting to see the difference when I try doing the journey at different average speeds. Also the real-time thing is the fun in certain situations.

I got 600 miles (Olso to Mo i Rana) in my E39 530D, and the the computer still said I had 150 miles of fuel left... But I did have 1/4 of a tank left. But I still had 200 miles to go, and the filling station in Mo I Rana was really cheap, so I fillled up.

From Oslo to Mo i Rana, I was pretty much averaging 50mpg, unfortunatly the last 200 miles were much harder to keep up a steady pace, and it did drop the average down to 48mpg :(.

The cars computer was pretty close working out the fuel/remaining distance, and as with Fox's car... The MPG reading was within 1mpg of what I calculated as I brimmed in Oslo, Mo I Rana, and again in Eidbukta.

that's quite the journey :)
shame the roads in norway are all crap 2-lanes..
we did oslo - brussels in under 2 tanks, and that was in a fully-laden e60 525d, and i have a heavy foot, average speed after we left sweden was around 100

I just rag mine and when the light comes on I fill it up . IMO you don't buy a 3L car and keep tabs on the MPG personally. Rag in and see how low you can get it, thats what I do :)

300BHP and 5.7 litres over 150 miles of mixed motorway and B roads, mostly sitting on the cruise at motorway speeds (so could have been better). Fair bit of traffic too, resulting in:

:p

Irritatingly best economy is achieved by crusing 10/20mph over the legal limit. Oh well! Have to move to those last few remaining stretches of autobahn - If any!

I'm averaging 23mpg at the moment, and thats mixed mainly long distance driving. I think its the new tyres. Never ever seen 30 on the dial let alone nearly 40 as the 3.0 BMWs seem to manage :(

Lashout, thats insane economy!

Yea - In top they're only turning 1800RPM at 70 :) - everyone always states an average of about 25-32mpg on the motorway depending on the car's health and useage. You could probably squeeze a few more out with a couple of mods, mind - and not using the cruise.

You should try one :D

F1's have ruined my MPG :(

Best I ever got was 56.5mpg over 250miles. I had skills that day. Best I've had from a tank is about 750 miles though. (around 50 mpg).

Now I'm averaging 42mpg which is awful :(

you should respect your mum's car shes had the decency to let you use it! and if you crash it she'll loose her ncb

my mondeo is averaging about 25 mpg driving with lead feet, and i do mostly town driving :(

I'm glad I don't have an MPG/trip computer in my car, last time I worked out my MPG over a 200 mile round trip, some motorway but mainly B roads i ended up with 14

Sadly it dropped to 29mpg by the end of the day, mainly because I had to keep driving round in Woodstock to find a parking space :(

Aye, that's a bummer! Woodstock can be well hard to park in sometimes... I really should walk into town as its only 5 mins away!

I get about 29.5mpg ragging and cruising... rubbish really

Isn't that in US Gallons though, so it's about 23mpg over here. Or can you change the settings of the fuel computer?

Had always crossed my mind - but it was a UK spec model and reputedly the hard coding is altered to reflect this. Certainly the amount I filled it reflected it's reputed mileage.

Depends how 'accurate' your averages are. I love to see the 48mpg read out on the E46 when it actually works out closer to 42mpg. This is even after the calibration setting was altered. :(

Most of the difference comes from them measuring a different thing. When you use the briming method you are averaging mpg over fuel usage; trip computers typically average over time.
