Seems like he had almost a 20 minute head start before anyone even noticed he was gone. Which probably means he had a couple of hours head start after they searched the grounds for him, called the police and they reacted.
I think looking in local parks is a waste of time. They needed to do that straight away as you can walk over a mile in 20 mins. If he managed to get a car, or hop on to another lorry he is long gone.
