No POST beeps (no speaker)

Hi,

I have a Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R that appears to have become faulty. The PC turned itself off randomly and abruptly yesterday, restarted OK but refuses to work today.

When I turn it on, the power light comes on but nothing more happens. I tried a spare PSU and nothing changed so that is OK. I have disconnected everything to try to eliminate the problem without any success.

It therefore seems to be either the motherboard or the graphics card but, without a spare graphics card to test, I was hoping to get some beep codes to help me. Problem is, my case doesn't have an internal speaker so I'm a bit snookered!

Apart from randomly replacing the graphics card or motherboard, my only solution is to try to hook up a speaker from somewhere. Any thoughts on how I'd do this or any other suggestions?

Hi mate, have you tried removing the battery of your motherboard for about 10 mins to clear the CMOS? If you havn't still, I'd try that.

Also, try removing your card and re-inserting it back to the pcie slot.

I've tried both but I only removed battery for about 1 minute. I'll try again...

If the battery was dead, would that prevent the PC from working as described above? Surely I'd still get a picture on the monitor.

Not easy if you don't have an old case speaker kicking about.

What I'd do is grab a speaker and connect the wires from that to a couple of the terminals from my unused frontpanel audio connectors.

Either that or buy one of these if you can wait a day or two......

Removing the battery clears the CMOS, it has nothing to do with it being dead

Understood but does that mean that if the battery IS dead, the PC would start fine?

Interesting, do the POST beeps come through the front panel connectors?

You surely can!

The reason I suggested about clearing the CMOS was probably due to messed up settings in the BIOS.

Sometimes the beeps do but I think it's motherboard dependent. I meant just to use the little square socket terminals from one of the frontpanel connectors (in the process destroying one) to get the speaker connected. You could hold the bare wires on the relevant pins on the motherboard but that leaves you in a tricky position to fault find.
