hi guys

ive got a problem ive never seen before my pc has been working fine for the last four months and has had no new graphics card drivers, however on initail start up it some times appears to send no signal to either monitor, but recovers after a restart. i originally thought the graphics card has gone kaput but apart from this its all working fine. any ideas

thanks in advance

dave

Tried 1 stick of ram at a time ??

I had a similar problem, sometimes no video message on monitor

At 1st i could swap from dvi to vga cable for some reason and it would work (looking back it was coincedance)

Happened every so often, then noticed rar files as i was unraring were throwing up errors and this got so bad almost 90% of rars showed as error'd

In the end no boot up at all as such

Went through everything in my rig checking on a make shift 2nd rig

Ended up i swapped ram mods around and i was up n running again but for a short time

In the end 3gig out of 4gig (4x1gig mods) had slowly been dying

Sorted rma and got new ram while i waited for rma (still got 4x1gig crucial new 1 sided ballistix unopened lol)

So in the end in my case it was ram

So weird an issue it took ages to pinpoint it

Worth a try i guess

Ciao

hey again,

Nothings overclocked all at stock values. hehe and yes i have check the cables :P
it did it again today once but i left it to see what would happen and i herd the vista start up jingle. could this mean the graphics card has a itermitant fault? It has started fine 9/10 times i tested it today. Will try your suggestion of ram also.

cheers

I had the same problem with an 8800GT on Sunday.

No signal, hard drives were spinning and it was still booting into Windows as I heard the logon sound.

Turned out to be a dead VGA Card and waiting for a replacement. Could be 2 weeks. :(

Do you have another VGA Card you can test with?
