No sound in web browser?

My mates computer is odd.

WMP Itunes ect work, windows sounds work.

But no sound in any web bowsers, ie or firefox.
Tried several diffrent files to get sound to work in the browser and nothing works.

WMP plugin doesn't work, streaming videos doesn't work.

I'm stumped. Is there a global setting just for browser sound?

I think there is, try right clicking Internet Explorer on the start menu and select "Internet Properties" on the (i think) "Advanced" tab you should find an option named "Enable sounds in browser" or something similar, it's a while since i used XP.
