No Valve games at E3

Seems more and more likely they are holding out for the next gen consoles to arrive in my opinion. They have an audience in the console market now, and it makes sense for them to accomodate that as well - HL3 technology will probably require better console hardware to run it than what is currently available.

not thought of that before, i just auto assumed they would focus on the PC gaming market but thats a bit naive thinking about it, they must have got a huge increase in customers since going on PSN.

The current consoles are more than capable of running the Source engine, even with all the updates they have made to it over the years, and Valve have just said that they are NOT developing a brand new Gfx engine...so i dont think new consoles are the reason for the delays, its just there is the universal time we mortals live by, and then there is Valve time..:D

They are making it. And the time they've taken suggests it will be a decent lengthy experience. Given their shift to multiplayer it will probably have a full coop campaign (one as gordon, one as alyx?) + multiplayer modes attached. Will probably have a tie-in to aperture science too. :)

They're not? Well thats a shame I thought they're ditching episode 3 to make a new game with new engine.

I wasn't assuming a new engine, but whatever updates they do to the current source engine, I would imagine would take definite advantage of newer hardware. Look at TF2, it used to run fine on most dual cores with an 8800 series card, then the past 2yrs the new updates brought those systems to their knees, which also would explain the huuuuge delay with the consoles getting the newer engine updates for TF2. I would not be surprised if the same would happen with the 360 and the PS3 with their next source engine updates for HL3, and thus they are waiting for next gen hardware so they can release it on all platforms at the same time. That's my take on it anyway.

I've got no problem with console gaming and do it on both my PS3 and 360 however I can't help but think that had they only been developing ep3 or HL3 for the PC, we would have had it by now. I really think consoles are going to hold back PC games from now on. Take Crysis 2 for example!

Just all makes me a little sad :(

valve just filling gap with all other games , if it weren't for portal and l4d witch are really small games tbh , it would be 4 years if not more since episode 2 , and as far i remember they said we going to do episodes so we can release games quicker .

Lol...have you been in suspended animation or something, the current consoles have been holding back PC games for the last 4yrs..:p

Haha, well I know it's been happening for a while. What I mean is it just really hits me with games that I love such as Half Life.

Conjecture. Massive, huge, ginormous amounts of conjecture.

Lost all hope for Valve. Half Life 1 still stays as my all time favorite, but If they don't show something on E3 or shortly after, im never buying their products again. Shows how they chose the money milking way instead of continuing their flagship game that made them famous in the first place. A big **** you from Valve here. Dissapointed.

They've already said they've scrapped their episodic release structure and focusing on different means of optimising their release cycle. I'm guessing they've put a lot of manpower on improving Steam in recent years, and they've got a chunk of people maintaining TF2 as well.

HL3 will come and when it does, I'm sure it'll be epic. Like somebody else said, they don't release the not-quite-done-yet kind of mess we've seen from so many studios recently.

Garonazz, what on earth are you talking about? The money making way would have just been to pump out HL3, HL4 and HL5 within 12 months of each other. As you said, HL is their flagship game and is thus guaranteed sales even if the game is just a video of Barney bouncing a ball. Releasing all these other games was the risky, not safe thing to do. New IP can flop entirely.

If they don't show Episode 3, you won't buy anymore of their games? That's really childish.

+1 for 'Wes, Valve always put out quality games, how silly to say you won't purchase from them again because they haven't released Ep3/HL3 yet...

I'm dissapointed in you Garonazz tbh.

Some people have this misconception that studios "owe" them a sequel. Check out the Elder Scrolls forum and see how many people are discontent with Bethesda's development ideas.

I do hope they do another Half Life, easily one of if not my favorite game series.

It's Valve, they work on a different time scale to everyone else, never been disappointed by the stuff they release so it should be worth the wait.
