Noctua Fans - not that good?

Because:

It's cheaper to produce crap fans in a case that is covered by foam and steel to reduce noise
People aren't educated enough to know the difference, so on the surface it makes sense that a case with no openings would be quieter.

The issue is, with internal fans becoming chocked, they need to run at higher speeds to maintain the same cooling potential, since the internal ambient air is higher.

I'm not saying that silent cases with closed fronts like the Fractal Define series CAN'T be quieter, but rather for a given noise level, they won't as cool, so you can lower fan speeds on a mesh case to make it quieter and cooler/as cool.

I have tried this unfortunately with no success :(
That simply isn't true you'll often find people go for different cases after trying the ones with completely open front and top ones including myself but you live and learn

im running the OCUK cheapy silverstone fans from awhile back
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/over...21wc-watercooling-radiator-fan-fg-052-sv.html

one has got noisey and i can get away with adding a better fan, ideally something that can maintain the same low noise rpm but also be able to go higher than them for those hot days
originally i planned on the ML120 pro, but they are not quite as good as the cheapy ocuk fans
iv not seen any charts to compare the ML120 pro against the P12, has anyone switched to the p12 and found them that much better?

Corsair ML120 has details in design far from good for having good smooth noise profile.
Those exceptionally wide hub/motor supports cover half the blade's trailing edge at once:
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/corsair-ml120-120mm-premium-magnetic-levitation-fan-fg-07l-cs.html

That means every time blade passes one there's major bump into airflow from that obstacle.
Just try blowing air though your mouth and then move some object like finger or pen back and forth through the airflow and you'll find out what obstacle does...

good to know, had not thought of that tbh
iv only seen the thermalbench review of the ML120 and the review of my OCUK fans
sadly they dont cover the p12, clearly everyone is raving over the p12, just wondered if anyone had moved from the ml to the p12 and felt it was worth the upgrade, would be nice to have an idea if i should just change the 1 fan or more, i run loads of fans so im not replacing them all, but a nice comparison to let me know they are better would be good
i never thought i would be impressed with a £4 fan, it runs at down as low as 2.7v 350rpm its crazy lol
with 18 fans with 13 of them on rads its nice to have them able to be quiet as poss, i normally have them running around 400-450

I have 3x Noctua 140mm A14s (2x intake front panel, 1x exhaust) in my Fractal Define R6 case, and I couldn't be happier. The PC is virtually silent in typical usage. I am using the low noise adaptor and my temperatures are also good.

Buy the P12's a lot cheaper than ML120s and probably quieter too.

I recently bought the Lancool 2 Mesh, and the included fans are poor. Buzzing/noisy, so I bought some Noctua NF A14 Chromax at £22 each, and I'm pretty disappointed.

In addition to the Noctuas for the front of the case, I bought a Shadow Wing 2 for the rear, and it's considerably quieter.

The Noctuas are quiet at low speed, but even with a low speed adaptor, so they run at similar speed to the SW2, they create a lot of turbulent noise at higher speeds, i.e. it's not the motor, but the sound of the air.

What is your experience with Noctua fans? Good or bad? Why?
** sorry for my english i use translator **
Noctua are good as fans, I bought 2 Be Quiet cases! Pure Base 500dx, which are equipped with 140mm Pure Wings 2 as standard, then I bought 3 Noctua NF-A 12x25 PWM and 5 Arctic P12 PWM, I did a lot of tests and I still have to finish, then the Be Quiet (all in exhaust 1 rear - 2 tops) are quite silent but at maximum speed and in the evening you can hear the 3 front noctua in intake which up to 1300rpm are very quiet, but you can hear them over 1300rpm!
Now I have put the 3 Arctic in place of the Be Quiet Pure Wings (all in exhaust 1 rear - 2 top) much quieter than the Be Quiet !!!! and the 3 front Noctua and I discovered this, to attenuate the resonance noise with regular cadence of the front Noctua, starting from 1600rpm, select a range with 5% difference between them, for example;
Noctua Up 70% alternatively Noctua Up 75%
Noctua Up 65% alternatively Noctua Up 80%
Noctua Up 60% alternatively Noctua Up 70%
and the noise even at 1700/1800 rpm has decreased a lot, later I want to try with 3 Arctic P12 front and see the noise if it is the same or less.
However I must say that the temperatures are good with noctua

I have 2 NF-F12's up top in my Corsair 4000D Airflow, passed 75% they become audibly toxic but they are pulling air through a mesh, the loudest are my EK Vardar though on my EK 360.
If you want performance you are going to have noise.

Exhaust is also an NF-F12.

I bought some 15mm thin Noctua a few months ago (NF-12x15) - my last experience with Noctua was 10 years prior. Horrible fans mine are, extremely noisy above 500rpm - not sure if all 15mm are just noisy or if Noctua is just not as good as they say but either way these Noctuas are the worst fans I've owned in years
