anyone know if the above fits ok with the new gigabyte ud7 board dont want to go the watercooling route but wanting to experiment with overclocking and a bit of a novice here.

There's no reason why it shouldn't. Just make sure your ram sticks don't have tall heatspreaders.

No problem, it's an excellent heatsink. I have one myself and it fares so much better than the Prolimatech I tested.
