1st new build so apologies in advance for dumb questions, but I am unable to screw the spring loaded brackets to the cooler.

The screws supplied seem too large, I'm having to use excessive force to the point of stripping the heads.

Am I missing something ? Has anyone else had this issue ?

Is it possible that you got 2 different types of screws with your cooler for different sockets? For instance one for LGA775 (Core2Duo) and another set for LGA1366 (i7.)

The screws should be identical, but it's always worth a shot.

What socket are you installing this onto?

Are you screwing them in the right way? I messed that up first time because I wasn't reading the instructions. The brackets might be attached on the other side of the heatsink plate part.. double check your diagram :)

Checked

It's the 1366 slot for the i7.
The screws all appear to be the same, and I'm screwing upwards from the base, through the bracket and into the base of the cooler.

I think that you may be onto it ! BRB
