NOD32 Anti-Virus/Smart Security?

So I wanna get NOD32 to protect my system, but looking at both the Anti-Virus and Smart Security products, and not knowing too much about such software, can someone tell me how they differ?

I'd link to the products for their descriptions, but Overclockers don't sell them, and linking to other retailers is...frowned upon, put lightly. But both products can be found along with their product descriptions on a very well known site that's named after a certain river in a well known rainforest

I'd appreciate any help, as I'm not sure which one to get.

Thanks!

I also agree, Anti-virus is usually more appropriate for people..

I like Nod32, but having trialled a few this month (renewal time), I've found F-Secure seems to also not bog my system down (Nod's best feature), but it also scores very very highly in detection rates etc..

I'm basing the detection rates on http://www.av-test.org/certifications.

Hmm, surprised to see NOD so far down the rankings there. Had always thought it was one of the best in class for detection, as well as being virtually invisible at all other times. Still I've got 2 years left on me license so I'll stick with it until then :)

Cheers guys. I havn't built my PC yet, but it's almost exclusively for gaming, though I'll do a little browsing on it (few game sites/forums, facebook, youtube etc.), and for that reason I'll probably stick with NOD having it's reputation for being fast and all. If I decide to go for the Smart Security as I wouldn't mind the anti-spam feature, should I just turn off Window's Firewall before installing? or will I have to do something else with the Window's Firewall?

I'm not too knowledgeable on this subject, so any help appreciated :D

Ive recently after 2 years given nod32 a try again and its failed totaly, it let a shortcut virus in on my external hdds to the point even when I scanned it it was not finding anything wrong.

Stuck on Avast at work and plugged in the hdd and it straight away blocked the autorun malware trojan :)

Irony is Avast is Free..... avast has actually scored higher then nod32 in protection oddly.

Only issue Is ive stuck Avast on my home pc and scanned same drive and it still claims no virus dispite both programs are same and up to date !

Just goes to show you its hard to belive or trust any AV package, even if we go by that AV review website it claims Norton overall has the better protection/repair, and I know thats false because I use Norton daily at work on 20-30 machines and see just how bad it is at letting in viruses, it doesnt have the power to delete the tricky malware at all.

I think im gonna go back to kaspersky dispite the issues I had with it, at least it blocked anything at all dodgy coming in...

When I used NOD32's firewall, I didn't rate it at all. I much prefer COMODO, because it tells me when an application wants access and if I want to grant it access.

On the hunt for another AV though, but I always end back with NOD32. :o

Huh? The ESET firewall does the same thing and always has done.

I'm pretty sure there are several ways you can configure it:
-Automatic (the default - no prompts)
-Rules Wizard (pop ups about programs)
+ some others I cant remember.

Interactive
Automatic
Automatic with exceptions

Where interactive asks for each program (And also alerts you if the .exe has changed since it last accessed the internet), automatic... I'm not entirely sure, I guess it lets pretty much anything through?
Automatic with exceptions is the same as automatic, except that anything you've blocked in interactive mode will also be blocked.

Just curious, which version of Norton are you using at work ?

Norton 360 v5, also Internet security 2011

Doesnt really do much against the latest spyware/malware.... wish I could get a pound everytime I see a laptop with a flashing icon or fake virus software icon flashing in system tray and irony is norton shield next to it lol

Kaspersky is able to deal with them effectivly but can struggle sometimes, this is why I end up having to do healthchecks on them manually, usualy in safemode+networking support, Rkill and combofix/ccleaner and malwarebytes/superantispyware scan tend to get rid of 90% issues.
