The latest generation of our home-user products offers even more advanced detection technology and multi-layered security features.

“Even before its release, testing versions of the fifth generation of our flagship security solutions have been downloaded more than four million times. After thorough testing and months of development, we are now proud to present our customers with completely new ESET NOD32 Antivirus 5 and ESET Smart Security 5 products,” says Richard Marko, CEO, ESET. “With the new technologies we are incorporating into the product like ESET Live Grid and our Advanced HIPS, we will be providing an even more comprehensive protection than ever before. At ESET, we always strive to deliver technologically advanced products employing the latest innovations. At the moment we are already working on developing future generations of our security solutions.”

ESET Smart Security 5 and ESET NOD32 Antivirus 5 offers various new and improved features. The top five features are:
• ESET Live Grid, cloud-based reputation and protection technology
• New Removable Media Control, with more granular control of external devices
• Parental Control (ESET Smart Security 5 only)
• Advanced Host-based Intrusion Prevention System (HIPS)
• Gamer Mode

There has been revolutionary change in what used to be called ThreatSense.Net - our cloud-based malware collection system that utilises data from ESET solutions users worldwide. The technology is now named ESET Live Grid and offers optimisation of scanning based on the whitelisting of "safe" files. Cloud-based reputation is yet another method used by the latest generation of ESET products to determine whether a particular object is secure or not. The result is enhanced precision in detecting threats along with increased speed of scanning.

ooh, thanks. Will update Smart security when I get home :)

That reminds me, Eset installed some awesome software a while ago that I didn't bother to explore, looked like some sort of process explorer? Does anyone know what that is?

I installed it this morning. I had been using the release candidate for some time, and I'm impressed. :)

Just got an email about this. Wiping and re-installing Windows on one of the PCs today (new graphics card, want a clean start for drivers) so I'll install it on that and see what it's like before doing the other PCs.

Installed it to replace version 4 but since installing V5, when I logon, windows 7 just sits at the welcome screen and won't go any further. Installed V4 again and all is fine. Is this a known bug as I can't find any information on it atm with the 64bit installer. Had to stick with v4 for now.

Just updated V4 to V5 64bit. I've not had the issue you mentioned. Did you uninstall V4 and reboot before installing 5?

Yeah full install, went looking for the hidden folders to make sure, uninstalled 4, deleted any trace of what was left, reboot, installed V5 and when I reboot it sits at the welcome screen. Go back to V4 or MS Essentials both will boot up fine, go back to V5 sits at welcome screen again and all HD activity dies.

Nothing in event viewer to give any clue but as soon as I remove V5 all is dandy. Only got until Jan on it anyway for the dets so might just stick with V4 for now then move to something else in Jan.

Not heard anything as yet from ESET about it, fingers crossed this isn't just a one off as I really cba to rebuild the gaming rig again.

I've seen this before, seems to be when its installed to anything other than drive C: - ESET are aware AFAIK....

Would explain it as I install mine to E:\ Version 4 was fine with it I guess V5 doesn't like it? Will try running it from the C:\ tonight and see if that makes a difference.

ah, definately sounds like it. As I said they are aware, so I guess a fix soon.

Try it with C - it definately works with no issues.

Odd no one picked that up in the BETA testing tho...

Forgive me but why on earth are you installing programs to E:\ ?

Because I have C for windows/drivers only, D is the docs partition, all software goes to E, games on F and then G is a backup/mp3/video etc. Always ran it like that and never had any problem at all.

Downloaded and installed this last night. New interface looks nice but I'd be happy with a less cartoony version.

Not sure I like the "Pretty please can I scan this hard disk you've just turned on?" feature.

NOD32 not happy with me right now because I've got 5 days left on my license. I think I might renew it soon. ;)

ESET Smart Security and iTunes Users?

Well i updated to V5 and now iTunes freezes when i connect my iPhone 4. uninstalled V5 and its fine again.

Tried a fresh install removing all traces of ESET SS, and all settings, still no dice.

Am running the full Smart Security Suite, installed to my C Drive. As noticed above, always have had my AV on the SSD boot drive.

Can i DL V4 from anywhere? If not then it looks like i cant use this anymore. MSE it is then.... Lucky my sub to Eset runs out in October.

Anyone else have this?
