I've a new i7 920 build, currently with the stock cooler, which I am considering replacing, (fully aware I'll have to take the whole thing aparent to fit a backboard but such is life) my query relates to noise.

Under load the stock cooler isn't particularly loud, in fatc my whole system is reasonably quiet. What are the noise levels of the noctura and TRUE like compared to the stock intel cooler? I have been made aware the fenrir blows a tornado at full pelt, so how do the others rate, and in which fan configurations?

TIA

the TRUE is 100% silent...until you fit a fan onto it

TRUE and sharkoon or xilence fans are usually quite good

Yes I was aware the TRUE is passive, but I would expect a fan to be fitted, are TRUE's usually fitted in push-pull or just one-sided?

With fans fitted how does the true compare to the noctura for noise levels?

Tues are fitted with either push or push pull, push pull cools a few degrees more than just push

personally I'm using a true with 2x noctua p12, my dammed 200mm case fans are noiser

The Noctua is very quiet as the 1366 version comes with 2 of their P12 fans which are almost totally silent. The TRUE is as quiet as the fans you put on it - so if you put 2 Noctua P12's on then it's exactly the same as the Noctua HSF. Both are very good units.

Go for the noctua 1366 cooler, it looks like a lot of money but as Si says, it has two top notch fans with it that you'd pay a lot for if they didnt come with the cooler.

Well I've just replaced my stock cooler for a Noctua NH-U12P SE1366, connected to a Scythe Kaze Master Ace fan controller and temps have gone down from 45 to 35/37 (idle), with hardly any sound. Even on full, the 12P's are almost silent.

The only thing I need to do now is change the stock fans in my Lian-Li case (front and rear) for two more Noctua's, but unfortunatly they don't produce a 14cm fan. :( I'm now after the newer 12cm Noctua NF-S12b FLX, for the rear, again unfortunatly they are few and far between.

It would seem from what others have said, that a True and noctua fan combo is the best option. But only by a degee or so.

For me its Noctua all the way. :D

Earlstreetblue - Noctua are about to release a 140mm fan, so hold on for a while...!
It has fitting holes to allow it to be fitted where a 120mm fans goes so I can see it selling well!
