Allo,

this is my first post in here as I only recently took up photography and recently graduated to a Canon EOS 350D.

What I basically do is go to gigs and take pictures on full manual without flash - or occasionally with the flash intensity dropped as low as possible and having it trigger on the 2nd curtain. However I don't like using flash at all and would generally avoid it.

The problem is with the 350D when I whack the ISO up the noise is awful, so my question is really pretty simple.

What camera next?

Literally the only thing I need is to have very low noise at higher ISO settings, ideally at 1600+ when used without flash. Hoever reviews aren't helping me massively with which to go for really as they don't always make it overly clear.

Can anyone help me out with some tips on what model I should be after? (I've got a bit of saving up to do, so that will give me time to badger OcUK staff to stock it ;)).

Thanks in advance

From what I have read, the full frame sensors are much better at handling noise and high ISO, in particular the 5D. Having looked at some pictures this certainly seems to be the case.

currently cannon have the best sensors at high ISO. A 1dmk3 is likely currently the best, but you will need deep pockets if you want one.

As said, full frame sensors do have the lowest noise, (it's all to do with pixel size and density), so a 5d might be a possibilty - cheaper than andy 1d but still pricey.

you might find more luck if you can get hold of some fast prime lenses rather than a standard zoom (if that's what you are using?). or if you look around for a camera or lens with some anti-shake capability.

another option is to reduce the noise in the image with software (noise ninja is rated quite well usually).

Personally, i'd stay with the 350 and throw £80 at a 50mm f1.8 lens and see how you get on.

Logical choice would be Canon 5D, though the Canon 30D and the Nikon D200 both do well with high ISO noise.

I own a D200 and I would not say it is great at high iso's. My D50 is much better when you need to push the iso up.
