When i press the shutter down to focus and the settings adjust in camera i can hear a very quiet noise that comes from the 'camer' as the settings adjust. Is this normal? Canon 450D.

Not heard it before as it is usually noisey in my house!! lol

Is it a clicking noise - If so are you using an IS lens? IS lenses normally click a bit. Otherwise.. that's the sound of it focussing :p

No, not clicking. As i said in opening post, it is coming from the 'camera' not the lens. I can hear the camera working while it adjusts settings, very faintly. Is this normal?

^^ no canon put the IS in their lenses not the bodies.

I had a 450d and can't remember any noises from eh body when changing settings.

what settings does it happen with?

That's image stabilisation, I'm on about the motor that rotates the focusing ring, that might also only be in all the lenses, I'm a nikon guy myself, so not that familiar with canons...

arh yes, sorry. jumped the gun there slightly.

Oh, and yes the motors are also in the lenses so it's not that either :)

I'm willing to bet a kit kat that it's the IS which is making the noise. Whether you think it's coming from the camera or not. Whenever you half press the shutter buttoon it will engage for a few seconds and then turn off, makes a kind of whirring noise.

I always wondered if it was working on mine, never heard a peep from the IS!

When I first used the 55-250mm IS, I was horrified when it made a noise like that because I thought it's normally silent but it's the other way around and that the IS in 18-55mm lenses are unusually silent.

Done a test of the camera again and it happens in man mode too but, it only makes a noise when the flash is engaged. When the numbers change in the viewfinder thats when the noise happens. Very very faint indeed. Not coming from the lens. Doesn't happen when flash not engaged. It is so faint. Like a tiny squeak when the flash settings change.

Tried it on my 500D and it is the same. Very faint. Cannot hear when the flash is down. When flash up, if i put my year to the camera and press the focus button i can hear it. Moving the camera around as it changes focus with the flash up i can hear the noise. Must be the norm!! I am slightly mad!

Not flash charging up.
