I didn't know if to post this here or in another section.

Basically, I've had my PC since around November, and when I first built it, it cut out a lot and froze. Although through some playing around I discovered that it did this because:
a) The CPU was too hot
b) I don't have a large enough PSU so not enough power

So, as I don't have much money the PSU will have to wait until summer or something but I went and bought myself a Akasa Blue-LED light as a temporary solution to the overheating. I found an 8-10oC drop in case temperature and the freezing happens very rarely now and I think a better PSU will fix this.
Anyway, to cut a long story short: The fan I bought is sitting at the back of my case, sucking air in through a mesh grill. Because of this it has a slightly high-pitched noise which has begun to annoy me several months later. I was wondering if there is anyway to help reduce the noise, short of removing the mesh (that would be too much effort).

Any ideas/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I have fan noise problems, my solution for the moment until i can find some Coolermaster Aluminum 80mm LEDs fans is to turn up the volume with my speakers. I have 2 quiet 80mm in the front they are very good at cooling my HDD and are very silent. I have also recnetly bought a Akasa Amber, even though i can be loud its in my controler and does not make much sound. I have a Akasa LED blue fan = Very loud. I would look for the coolermasters.

Why is air being sucked in from the back? should be sucked in through the front.
By some more fans!

I have 6!!!

As the previous poster said, you'd probably get better cooling performance by having a fan pulling cool air in the front and one exhausting the hot air out the back.
If your noise problem is solely due to the grill then reversing the fan flow may sort it.

Nix, if it works for you stabily, dont change it is what I will say.

Normally it is in the front out the back, but if you are running one case fan, in the back, and out through the PSU is the way it should work. More fans does not mean better cooling.

To stop the whining, you could either slow the fan down, which may start heat issues again, or you remove the fan guard from the case, or cut it out.

By doing that it should make a big difference.

What case have you got?
