I installed my Seagate 250gb 7200.10 a couple of days ago and I'm surprised by how noisy it is.

It gives off a constant high pitch noise and when it's being accessed the 'crunch' is extremely loud.

I actually bought it to replace my noisy WD drive, but that was silent compared to this!

Could it be faulty? HDTach shows that it's performing as expected so I don't want to risk returning it only for ocuk to say there's nothing wrong with it :(

The distance selling act doesn't cover opened and used items :-(

I'm convinced there's something wrong with it because it really is noisy when being accessed.

Can anyone else with a 7200.10 share their thoughts?

Turns out the high pitch noise is coming from the motor on the drive and not caused by resonating on my case.

I put my old WD in and now I have peace again, what a waste of money!

Have a look at this thread below:

read post #146 and see if that helps. You may have one of the noisier motors described in that post in which case you can't do anything about it other than use a hard drive silencer/enclosure.

Yeah, just my luck.

Do you think OC would accept it as a return based on the fact that it's noisier than expected?
