Noisy neighbours - what to do about their music?

I live in a large old house converted into 2 flats. My neighbour has been playing loud music everyday for about 2 weeks now.

Starts about 11am every morning and stops anywhere between 11pm and 4am. Normally worse at the weekends. I'm at work so she can do all she wants in the day but it's the evenings which suck.

I have spoken to her and she apologises but then the very next day it happens again. All I hear all day/night is the thudding of her base.

What on earth is she doing?

Anyway, what can I do? Do I have any rights or can I complain to anyone?

I'm getting pushed so far I fear i might do somthing stupid...i wan't to cut off her electricity! Plan B is to wait till her music stops tonight between 4am-11am and turn my own music on full blast. Backstreet boys on repeat? :P

Speak to her again. If that fails you can get her done for some sort of disturbance (maybe). Try your best to sort it out amicably.

Speak to the council.

If you're lucky, it's a council/RSL property and they'll react quickly. If not, they can still sort it out, will just take longer

I vote for the Backstreet Boys method.

Personally, I'd have another word with her and let her know that you're not trying to be a prat, but it's seriously causing you issues.

If she doesn't stop, a week-long blast of The Berzerker every night at 3am ought to teach her a lesson.

This would bug the crap out of me. I would probably start playing my own music stupidly loud at an obscene time in the morning just to annoy the crap out of them. The right thing to do though would probably be to speak to them again, and if it doesn't improve report them to somebody official....

Spoken to her on about 4 occasions already in the past couple of weeks

She's had enough chances now.....and I've had enough

I guess i'm off to the council!

I do like the idea of a vuvuzela band tho ;)

It sounds convoluted but bear with me.

Find out if it's a council property first. If you don't know or are unsure the quickest way is to phone the council and ask to report a repair on the property. Dont ask for the ins and outs, but say the gutter is leaking or something - the repairs department will soon tell you if its one of theirs. If not, make an excuse and hang up.

Once you kmow, you can report it either to the council directly or to the housing ASB team - the latter will be able to deal with it quicker and more effectively, which is why it's worth finding out. Same goes for HAs

I feel for you mate. I had this exact same issue about 18 months ago with our next door neighbour doing pretty much the same thing. Wild parties, screaming and shouting, blasting music from 10pm through the night until 8am... The kids were grey with sleep deprivation and a quiet word resulted in the door being slammed in my face, twice.

I did the council/EH thing, but eventually just moved. It's harsh, and hard work, but tbh unless you get lucky with the council it's about the only easy, practical and permanent solution. Best wishes, I hope you get it sorted. It's not fun, I know.

Get a few drinks go round have a party and smash the pasty in :D

Have you actually tried speaking to her again? Falling out with the neighbours is a terrible idea. You should talk to her again and just explain the music is really disturbing you - don't even mention going to the council. If she doesn't act reasonably and stop then you should think about taking it further.

Maybe she has forgotten or even has turned it down but not enough - I'd be very ****ed off if a neighbour went to the council about noise without making a decent effort of sorting things with me first.
