Hi Guys

Iv just built a new gaming rig in a Corsair obsidian 650D and wow its loud!!!
Iv got the fan controller on low but still very loud.
Should they be this bad?
Im thinking of changing the front fan for a Coolermaster megaflow and putting 2 120mm fans on the back.
Has anyone got any other ideas?
To be honest, if it wasnt for the shear hasstle, id send it back

Thanks

You will never fix the problem of the whine unless you:

A: Move the hard drives back to the middle hard drive mounts and then space the front fan about 1cm-2cm away from the front mesh. Dont waste your money and purchase new fans thinking it will fix the problem.

B: Remove the font mesh.

What ever fan you put in, you will always have the whine. The reason this is caused is because the mesh infront of the fan creates positive pressure and therefore, creates the whine.

I have gone down route B and cut the front mesh out, there is no sound coming from this fan anymore.

How I did it is in my build log here: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18308929

Hi there
Great build by the way.
I think I will try option 1 first as I dont want to take everything back out of the case. Whats the best way to move the fan back?

Thanks

You could get some rubber washers as you can get quite thick ones (like the ones that come with the case).

And like above said, you can get wire cutters and cut it out but it is messy, but you wont see it I suppose :p

Do you think you can record the sound op? Would be quite nice to hear, so many complaints but never heard it.

Many people cut the mesh out, Corsair need to fix it.

Iv put washers between the fan and case and it has improved a bit but the fan does seem to be spinning very quickly even at the lowest setting. Is there a way to slow down the fan?

Shame about the sound. Also a shame that the only real fix is cutting the mesh out.

I'm getting this case tomorrow, I hope it isn't too annoying, but then again I normally have my headphones on.

Should be fine, main reason it annoyed me is since Im staying in Uni Halls, it would be too loud in such a small room.

Ok iv put 2 rubber washers between the case and fan, connected the front fan to the mobo through a noctua cable to slow the fan right down, iv replaced the top fan with a 140mm fan and attached the rear fan to the mono. It's more than halved the noise.
The front noise is still a little odd as iv not cut the grill away, but it's not bad at all.
The mono temps were around 30c with the fans as they were before, with all fans bar rear off the temp went to 40c whilst gaming.
It's now at 29c and idle is 34c. Result I think.

I've got the front fan running at 7v & the noise has now gone :) to be honest i don't think a lot of this case as the standard cooling is poor too say the least.

What controller are you going for?

I can confirm that something makes a racket. Not sure what though... humm. Calls for some more investigation tomorrow.

Just finished build today in a 650D

Also think its a bit on the loud side and the whine is getting annoying now!

Methinks its time to get out mr dremel!

odd i have a 600t with the same grills and it doesnt seem loud at all..

guess its what your used too.. coolermaster wave master was much louder with 80mm fans.
600t with fans on lowest setting seems very very quiet. doesnt seem to have any grill noise to me
