I recently got the Nokia 6233 as a replacement for a faulty 6230i, which in turn was a replacement for a dead 3 year old 7600!

I thought the 6230i was a good solid phone, but in many ways it was inferior to the 7600 – it was a tad slower (not sluggish in anyway) and the screen was smaller. I don’t know what it was, but the 6230i didn’t seem as intuitive as the 7600. The 7600 was perfect apart from slightly odd keyboard. I have owned SonyErricson, Samsung and other main brands and never really got on with them – they never seem to “just work”.... never have the nice little touches Nokia have. That’s why many people stick with Nokia’s.

Problem is that many new nokia’s have fallen short of what made them great recently, so was a bit apprehensive about getting the 6233. However the phone is nice…. Actually very nice! I love how the phone works – It feels great to use. The only blotch is the camera – it does not look largely better than the camera on my 7600 – in fact in some poor lighting it looks terrible (outside shots are fine). If you want camera go for a Sony! But the Video beats any Sony to pulp – its fantastic.

Here's some well lit pics

... and a low light one!

Another great function is the music player – the speakers are the best I’ve used in a phone – its so loud and got decent bass for its tiny size… its also stereo!

Anyway what do you all think of phone?

I've had this phone since the end of may, i really love the way it feels and its general usability. The camera isn't the best and the fact that it doesnt have a light really bugs me as i used to use it all the time on my k750i but its a price i'm willing to pay for this phone as i really like it, Video quality is exeptional though.

All in all i rate this phone very highly, i really wanted the black version though :(

I'm tempted to upgrade to one from my 6230i, but I've read it's a bit unstable and crashes a lot... which I absolutely hate.

Do you find that at all?

Wanted to get black one too but O2 dont sell them :(

Spay pain is your friend :D

You can get black silicon skins for the 6233

Blatently just get a black cover for like £10 from the'bay or something like that though surely?

I think only advantage with gunmetal version - is that I think it will look better for longer - the black seems to pic up grease and fingerprints.

yay, a 6233 appreciation thread! ive had mine for 2 weeks now and still love it. got the silver one instead of black as it looks a lot cooler. The size is just right and the build quality is v good. As for the keypad it is by the far the best keypad ever, camera quality is good and the speakers are loud!. Ive got a 1 gig memory in mine now, enough for 300 songs. i like series 40 v3 as well, with little things like pressing and keeping old of the hash key changes between silent and normal profiles, and the transfer % bar on the bluetooth transfers.

not as far as i know, might be able to in later firmware versions, would be handy as im not really going to be using ptt, esp as i cant find a network that offers it

Got myself a sim free one today to replace a 6280.

Just putting all my stuff back on it and getting the GPRS/WAP settings in :)

Why did you get rid of the 6280?

Ive still got the 6280 but its locked to vodafone and im waiting for them to give me the network unlock code as i can sell it on for more if its sim free. Plus it was a bit to chunky for my liking.

Im very pleased with this tho. Went to the 02 shop and asked if they had any on PAYG and they said they didnt do them ( seen them in home shopping catologue on 02 so who knows  )

Anyway I stumbled upon a bargain. I managed to get a 14 day return handset that was in mint condition, complete with everything for just £170 :D And the fact it was black made it so much sweeter.

Also, this hasnt crashed on me yet, where the 6280 did pretty regularly.
