Nokia E7 - looking good!

sort of not what i meant but still no reasoning

bit fed up of android tbh... total lack of killer apps and good games. theres only so many times i can replay day of the tentacle and monkey islands on scummvm

i had dreams of flash games with 2.2 making everything ok but after trying it last week those dreams where shattered. maybe jobs was right :/

i really would do but as a left hander im concerned about the antenna thing. plus im scared to go in the mac section because the last time i did i ended up buying a macbook

as for this thread i still think the N8 is looking better and that no one needs a big qwerty , only thing i find weird about these new nokias is the screen res which is already bordering on out of date

why do you need a higher screen res on your phone?

guys on here keep mentioning other phones too n9, n7 and e8 what are they?

i have only seen this one and the n8, the differences i can see between the e7 and n8 are:

E7 has a flip sideways qwerty keyboard

N8 has a better screen and camera

N8 is smaller,slimmer and lighter

N8 has a better talk time (battery life)

other than that they are even, i think, anybody else know any other differences?

After looking at that Video and the specs I'd consider dumping my Desire for this. Owned several Symbian devices in the past and never had a problem with them.

Tilting screen is great fantastic and the keyboard itself looks superb.

Desire is great but:

- I miss OVI maps and maps stored locally. Google Nav is cack.
- Battery Life sucks, its the worst phone Ive owned in this area.
- Miss my hardware keyboard sooo much..!

Could you tell me what features Symbian has that it does better than Android (or that Android doesn't have) out of interest, I'd like to know?

Better power management, better security, better multi-tasking, hardware acceleration throughout the UI, better support for graphically intense applications... There's enough there that some people might consider the N8.

And don't forget that hardware is useless without software. There's a good reason why Symbian phones are always at the top of the pile when it comes to phone cameras.

If you're dismissing a phone before it's been reviewed or released, you might just be a fanboy. :p

I don't get the negativity over Symbian. It's a NEW version of it. I have played on it for a whole 5 minutes on an N8 (yes, owned by a Nokia employee before you ask) and it was great. My missus 5800 has developed from a slow, clunky and limited phone to an excellent overall package. Sure the browser is a bit rubbish compared to more modern stuff, but the development has been there - over-air updates similar to the N900, Nokia Maps & Nav and whilst it isn't the best phone in the world, it is very good and I would wager most of those who decry Symbian haven't use an updated device.

But we're not talking about S60, we are looking at Symbian^3. And until we actually get to properly play with it, I think it's difficult to dismiss and doing so out of hand is naive to be honest. That includes drawing conclusions from the N97 or the N900 or anything similar because they're different software and different hardware.

I never said Android was better, I asked what Symbian has that it doesn't. Which is well, nothing.

Funny, as I once asked what does Android do that symbian doesn't and you and several others said Android was better :p

After being a long time symbian user myself and now an android user I can see the appeal of android over symbian.

However... there are several things I still find that symbian does or handles better than android.

Really does depend on what the person wants from a phone, as a work phone for example I wouldn't suggest android at all as none have fantastic battery life whereas there are several symbian phones (and of course blackberry) that are much better suited to this and will still do 98% of what an android handset will do.

To a normal user as a personal phone both have there good and bad points, it's a question of what is important to you personally, regardless what any random stranger on the internet tells you, it's pointless having an all singing all dancing iphone/desire for example if all you'll ever do is make calls and text yet they will still be suggested :p

This is an old thread! :p

Anyway, I got an E7 today and I have to say my first impressions are - wow, what a nice bit of kit. I thought the N8 was nice but I actually like this more :p

The ClearBlack AMOLED is very, very nice. Symbian looks a bit different than it does on the N8 too, which is strange (but good).

I can post more stuff about it later on if people are interested but otherwise I shan't bother!

Its a lovely bit of hardware Robbo, the screens so good it even makes symbian look better!
I would have liked the FM transmitter being enabled, but i can swallow that along with the lack of an N9 camera for the sake of the cold metal formfactor,if you know what i mean ;]
