Thinking of chaning my contract onto 3 as my orange contract is rather expensive £30 considering im at uni.

And 3 offer more minutes and more texts for half the price £15.

Now ive currently got a Sony Ericsson W800i with 2gb memory, i love this phone it has been an amazing little deivice.

Im thinking about getting the Nokia N80 just wanted some advice on it as i havnt had any of the new nokias.

Also how much memory can it take, was hoping to put a 2gb card in it.

Thanks

It can take a 2GB fine with the latest firmware I think. Not sure about firmwares before that, a few people reported problems.

For me I love the screen and I love the way the phone looks. It's the fastest S60 phone I've used too.

But that's not to say it's fast. Sometimes it gets a little sluggish, and my phone reboots randomly sometimes, usually when I'm trying to scroll through texts or something like that. I, and a lot of other users, also suffer from occasional "out of memory" errors which are annoying as hell.

Battery life is possibly the most annoying thing for me. It last 24 hours, if I'm lucky, with moderate use, and 2G mode only selected - with wifi and bluetooth switched off. Not great but not a problem if you're going to charge every night.

All in all - I don't like the N80. It's too unstable for me, I don't use the wi-fi function, and the battery life is hopeless. But the screen is amazing, the camera is decent and it uses s60 v3 which means that you can use all kinds of apps and games on it as I'm sure you know.

I still have mine only because I haven't yet found a phone I like to replace it. First one I do find, and the N80 is history.

I hate it, worst phone I have ever used. Slow aint the word. I send a text message and during the send I used to be able to go and browse other areas of the phone but now it locks up for about 30 seconds whilst the text message is being sent and eventually comes back to life. Battery life sucks even when you turn all the bluetooth off. It's bulky, it unlocks itself in your pocket frequently. The camera in perfect daylight is amazing but as soon as it gets dark or nighttime its completely useless. Randomly locks up whenever it feels like it.

Sorry but it is pants. So gutted I am on an 18 month contract too :(

Update the firmware via nokias website then (http://www.nokia.co.uk/softwareupdate), will sort out most problems. In the mean time install this to sort out the text message delay:

they are essentially the same phones unless you will use s60 to its full potential...and the k800i has a better camera but then youll be saving £15 a month...so its a toss up id just get the cheapest one, camera quality isnt too different

Nice one, the sms speed is sorted now, but rest of phone still seems sluggish :(

This is the nature of a smartphone. It's running a full blown OS. If you want a fast phone, you should consider a 'dumb' (regular) phone.

TBH the advantages of a smart phone are very marginal now really so unless you really need something specific from the n80, i would look else where.

Any regular phone can do basic organising tasks these days anyways,

Hmmm yer point taken.

I may get the K800i then my only gripe with that is the memory with it is pants and the little joystick it has, as i was hoping to ditch the joystick from my current W800i.

What do you mean by memory? you can get larger cards for it. And yer the joystick is always gonna be lame. The one on my t610 gave me so much trouble lol

Personally the N80 is the best phone ive ever owned. And I have owned a lot, roughly change mobiles every 6months. I have kept the N80 since it came out. I have changed the firmware to the latest and been keeping up to date with the many forums about. If you are prepared to get the most out of the phone it will be worth while. The wireless is what makes it great for me and use it all day at work and at home. I will get the N95 when its out and it will be a better phone but for now the N80 is with me all the time. True the battery isnt great, but its the price you pay for wireless, bluetooth etc.
I have done away with satnav in the car, use it with my nokia 610 car kit with tom tom running as well and I am a real happy bunny. Sorry but you wont here a bad word from me about the phone. Plus I have a snes emulator running on it now, god I love mario kart!!!
