Nokia N900

Would that not just be more hassle?
And being in the middle of an African conservation park i doubt there are going to be many places that sell sim cards :p

Actually there's a surprisingly good mobile infrastructure in many parts of Africa.

It be cheaper, but if you get a contract that includes other countries, it will probably cost you an arm and a leg, seeing as that is something business users are liekly to want. If you can get it or not, is another issue though.

Well im going to go in to Manchester this weekend so i will have a ask around at some phone shops seeing what their contract prices will be.
Speaking of which, has it been confirmed yet which service providers are going to be offering the phone from release date?

None, some offer it on a contract already, but essentially its being sold as simfree I think. At the very least, not locked to any provider.

The phone looks nice, and it'd be nice to try, but by the time my contract is up for renewal there will be another generation of this phone out, and hopefully the newer platform that they have implemented will be a bit more established.

As is my understanding, that they are going to be using this new platform across all their smart phone range from now on? Or am I completely mistaken?

Delayed till sometime in mid-November :(
Nokia says N900 sales delayed to November

HELSINKI (Reuters) - Top cellphone maker Nokia said on Friday its flagship N900 phone will start selling in November, a month later than originally scheduled, as the company awaits feedback from developers.
The N900 -- seen as key for Nokia's future in the high-end of the market -- is the company's first phone running on Linux software.

It will come with a touch screen and a slide-out keyboard, and will retail for around 500 euros ($750), excluding subsidies and taxes.

:( Soooo want this phone. Well at least they're not rushing it out and can only be good they're getting feedback of devs, although i can't see anything major changing. They make a few improvements or additions before its released, which would be nice. Oh well roll on mid-november-ish time.

Get rid of those links dude they are competitors and the references as well...

And theres no way Nokia are going to drop Symbian when they paid something like half a billion dollars for it.

i thought these were allowed now as long as not linking directly to something that ocuk offers also?

Went into phones4u yesterday and asked about the n900, he said...

"Nokia N900? Never heard of it mate"

=/

Not surprising really, none of the major networks have said much about selling the phone yet and it looks like initially it is only going to be sold 'sim free'. I popped into the Oxford Street Nokia Store on the weekend and they had no firm release date yet, said they were still expecting it 'some time' mid-late November.

Starting to get bored waiting for this now, been out of contract for months waiting for a phone to be released that seems to suit my needs. And now its delay, delay, delay .. yawn.
Money will go elsewhere soon I fancy.

Expansys now saying 15th of Nov is when they are due for stock...thats a sunday so dont know how much water that holds...i might pick one of these up but will wait to see what the initial impressions are...my gut feeling is that it will be full of bugs like normal Nokias:p...hoping that it isnt but im not paying any money for a phone that could potentially have bugs.
