Nokia N900

Erm bit confused now tbh the n900 looks ace but ive got my n97 erm is it worth the hassle of selling it on the bay and using the money to get this. Only issue is the n97 seems to be dropping in price. its basically the n97 with a better os and better software and better memory and opengl. Still though WANT!!!

So they announce the N97 in December, we can finally buy it in late JUNE, it arrives filled with inexcusable bugs and is replaced, screwing all of us now in 24 month contracts, just 3 months later?

What?

It was announced in December for release in H2 (June).. But yep the N97 was always a bit of a dog. Whyever did you sign for a 24 month contract! Id struggle to agree more than 12.

I was worried it would be a bit big, doesnt look too bad actually:

NO HOTLINKING

So, good things about the phone - Full flash, firefox, decent res screen, decent speed processor, Different OS, 1Gb RAM, Out soon (Oct), not too pricey (cheaper than N97 at launch..) and 10.2 Mbps HSPA.
Bad things - maybe a bit thick? Low Battery capacity?

The N900 is not a replacement for the N97.

The N97 is a phone with computer functionality.
The N900 is a computer with phone functionality.

Surf the Internet a lot? Get the N900. Make a lot of calls? Get the N97.

The N900 looks to have good potential, especially if the modders from the Linux community get hold of it. It is a big device but it has plenty of functionality, connectivity & computing power. I am looking forward to trying it out before purchasing though.

Sounds like the same thing to me?

Well one's a phone that has the odd bit of computer wizardry whereas the other has loads of computer wizardry with minimal time spent on making it do phone stuff, like the iphone :p

If? Go check garage.maemo.org. People have been adding content for this os for years.

Just on the maemo site...this looks friggin awesome!

The only thing that bugs me is the resistive screen....a few of my mates have an HTC Magic and one has an iPhone and i love the responsiveness of the capacative screen.

I would defo have to try one of these out as people with resistive screens seem to have a lot of bother getting it to do stuff. One in particular did have the LG Viewty so maybe argument is invalid :p although the sheer amount of features and power of this device may just outweigh that...

I hope the battery life is good on the N900, I might replace my E71 with the N900.

I still miss my old 2g iphone, I think the N900 will be a great replacement.

How can you do that? Will they just give you one or do you mean you are considering selling your N97 at a considerable loss then paying a small fortune to buy a sim free N900?

Thats what im considering doing but i dont know how much to expect for an n97 plus ive never used ebay for selling
