Nokia N900

its getting silly now. I'm getting awfully tempted to cancel and just get a touch pro 2 hd

Yeah, cancel an order you've been waiting ages, and order a COMPLETELY different phone (in every respect) for all because it's been delayed a couple of weeks. Right.

Shipping announced on the 9th, usually its available to retailers around 2 weeks afterwards - so next Monday or Friday if we are lucky. People are going mad on maemo forums about this - bloody idiots.

Well it is a tad pathetic - the phone was announced as shipping on the 9th ie eventually it will be 1 month delayed. How terrible.

OK, I 'might' have some news on this, at least from the Nokia direct order side of things..

After hearing about the delay from MPD to the end of the month, i rang them and they confirmed what others have been saying, but still wouldn't give a date.
I then rang Nokia and went through to sales and spoke the the guy there. Now this is just what he told me, about my order and I cant claim that it applies to anyone else.
When I enquired about ordering a phone - I was told, categorically, several times, that Nokia UK are not getting their n900's until Fri 20th.
I ordered a phone (see proof below) and with express delivery, I was told that I could expect delivery for Tues, maybe Wed if Im unlucky.
I enquired about getting it Mon, but was told that as they are taking delivery on Fri, then they would not be shipping it out until Mon, so delivery Tue/Wed to the customer
he was absolutely certain that they would not receive their n900's until Fri, he was also certain that they would have enough to fill ALL pre-orders and spare...

Yeah because I used the word terrible? my contract is almost out and the longer I wait, the longer I have 2 contracts for. With the original release date it was perfect timing, it's just getting annoying in being pushed back and back and back. I'll more then likely wait, unless its after x-mas at which point I will decide what to do.

Edge - thanks for that, useful to know.

I think we all have to remember this is a brand new type of phone from Nokia, the first of it's type and the first to run Maemo linux. It's not like the iphone, where Apple had people waiting to sell a kidney for one, the general public will probably not even have a clue what the N900 is and are unlikely to reap the benefits of the platform for some time. We're proper geeks who can walk into phones4U and probably know more about specific phones than their staff because we research our phones.

But it hasnt been pushed back again and again - it was delayed once.

I have some definite news - the Nokia flagship store just twittered that it is for sale in store on Thursday.

I wonder if that means that nokia will start shipping Thursday/Friday as said before?

but is has! MPD, 30th oct, then 9th Nov, then 16 Nov, now 27th November, possibly December. Need I go on? Officially yeah, 1 month, but there's been no news as to what these new delays are about and that's what most people are complaining about because we just want an update. Delays I understand, they happen, I just would like to know some updates.

err thats a retailer not Nokia. If you believe retailers then on your head be it. Nokia announced shipping on the 9th I think - is that a lack of info!? Now the phone is confirmed at the Flagship store on the 19th..

I was at the n900 meetup last night and got the chance to have a good play with one. I really dont think the screen is an issue, as although resistive, it is very responsive..
I definately got the impression that nokia have been caught off guard and did not expect this phone to be so popular as it was more for developers/niche market than the average Joe
It all seemed pretty positive, there is a massive push to get apps past the QA process, over 80 waiting for final approval, and examples of multitasking being shown. One developer had 27 seperate windows open with no sign of slowdown which was pretty impressive

On questions over google app support such as maps, they dont know, it might come it might not, and for those concerned about the version of Ovi maps it ships with (1.0), its a new version, as it is on Maemo, so dont compare the symbian and n900 version numbers as they do not compare..

I liked the feel of community that surrounded all the hype, it was more a linux based crowd who are used to coding and releasing under the GPL, and seemed quite eager to write some decent apps, rather than just port existing stuff to the n900...

Only bad thing about the night was that I really cant wait for mine to arrive now...

All good info it seems, once you guys receive them I expect some reviews - mainly on battery life please! Then I'll get mine ordered in time for Xmas :)

MPD are the first to get it though, so should be the same time as Nokia Retail. Considering nokia retail is operated by MPD. Why are the flagship stores getting stock before preorder people even get them? Kinda defeats the purpose of preordering really.
