Dear OCUK forums,

Im not too savvy when it comes to mobile phones and was hoping for some resolution to my problem, as I really don't know where to start in regards to fixing this.

Anyway, I bought a pre-owned Nokia N97 Mini a few months back from a well known auction site, it came unlocked so that I could use my o2 pay as you go sim card inside it.

Now, I want to be able to use the internet, read my e-mails and all the other stuff that a smartphone should be able to do (?), and my friend told me all I need to do is have a 3g signal. Here lies my problem, how do I get a 3g signal? My phone never shows a 3g icon in the top left (where the signal bar is).

Do i need to go through some setup? Or do I need a special sim card for this (my SIM is about 6 years old - for the sake of keeping the same number).

I would love to know if I can do this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards

yeh, it was on 'duel mode', as a suppose to 'GSM mode'. Still, not luck. If I open an internet browser it gives me these options:

Search for WLAN
WAP services
Uncategorised

WLAN works fine, but if i choose WAP services it just says connection error....every time. Am I doing something wrong?

Even without proper access points my N97 mini still displays "3G" below the signal bar..

Anyway, go to settings, connectivity, destinations and create a new access point for your network operator. See if that works

^^ do above - settings can easily be found on google/o2 site.

Also, as your sim is 6 years old.. you would prob need a sim that can support 3g!! give o2 a bell and they can send you out a new sim (you get to keep your number, etc - just remember to transfer all your contacts from the old sim to the new)
