Anyoen used non genuine ink cartridges ? Can they be trusted would§t normally entertain the idea but some of the savings are huge.

For example thinking of buying these :-http://www.cartridgeshop.co.uk/Product/View/3294/CLI-526-B-C-M-Y--Chipped--Compatible-Black---Colour-8-Pack---4-x-FREE-PGI-525BK-Blacks.html

Savings are over £25 so well worth considering , anyone have experience using that website?

Thanks in advance :)

As a comparison, genuine Epson cartridges have better colour than the compatibles. For documents and stuff it's fine, but you can notice a difference in photos. I use the cheapest of the cheap I can get on eBay.

From using Toner's throughout our work, we've looked in to Non-Branded/Refilled ink, and both have bought problems. They must use some sort of different ink within the Toner as these machines have more muck in the Toner Collector.

I've read on forums that most companies but in 3 Non-Genuine's then a Genuine Toner and it seems to work fine.

From me though, I'd rather go with genuine, unless you get some sort of guarantee with these non-branded/non-genuine ones.

Or do what I did when I was a lad and buy one of those refil kits that come with a massive bottle of ink and a syringe. Then knock the entire bottle onto the carpet and have your mum go absolutely mental.

go on ebay and buy genuine ones near the use by date, similar price and much safer option

Thanks for that suggestion I did think about this , but how or what are the tell tale signs to look for to make sure they are genuine and not fakes?

Cheers for all the replies I usually use works printer so I son§t really know to much about inks etc :)

I use non genuine, pay about £1 per cartridge or cheaper if i get all 3. Last a decent amount of time. Wouldn't use them for photos or anything though.

I previously worked as a printer engineer, and I'd just mention that ~2/3 of my callouts were caused by non-genuine consumables.

Also, the main manufacturers (OKI/Konica/HP) get very iffy about warranty claims and will often reject them if they find out you've been using non-genuine toners for this reason...

I refilled my Samsung laser toner. Drilled a hole in the toner chamber, filled it up. Stuck some duct tape over the hole. Inserted a new microchip. Job done. Works beautifully.

£15 versus £50. No contest.

Non genuine HP cartridges are just refilled HP cartridges or so I have been told. Something about HP patenting their cartridge design.

I have always had problems with Epson compatible carts with 3 printers i've had. After 6-8 months the printer heads would give up.

In order to get Epson to fix it under warranty you have to ship it to them with full Epson genuine carts in.

Surely this is anti competitive and illegal?

If genuine inks/toners weren't such a rip-off, then i's day go for originals, but i can buy compatibles our HP colour laser printers that are a 3rd of the price of originals.
They've been fine so far, with the exception of 2 that were dodgy. But with such a saving otherwise we can afford to have a couple screw up.
I also buy brother compatibles for our b/w laser. I've just bought some refill toner too to try that as we need to reduce costs big time.

edit: Brother won't void your warranty if you use compatibles.

Always used compatibles for ink jets, as someone mentioned above they don't last as long (i did have some a while ago like smelt like ####) but work ok.

Lasers are a little different, the ones they use at work (office depot mainly) have a nasty habbit of being done up so tight they don't work, exploding or just running out when they say they are at 90%. But then again you do get a lot that dont have any problems.
