Hi all,

Mainly cooking in a frying pan, whether it be steak, or chicken, or fish etc... but have had enough of Tefal as this is now the second pan of ours that is no longer non-stick after 18 months of usage.

What would everyone recommend? Need a couple of frying pans of various sizes, maybe even a casserole dish.

Pots I'm sorted for as I have WMF and they are fantastic. Ideally want something with a lifetime warranty.

Many thanks,

Andy

For frying pans - I keep getting recommended circulon ones. I plan to pick up a set when my current greenpans expire (not that good anymore but they were cheap).

As for casserole dish, I'd recommend a cast iron one. We have 2 (smaller and larger) and they're great as you can sear in them and then chuck in the oven. They clean easy and have great heat retention so you can leave the oven very low. Le Creuset are the obvious brand, but my Sainsbury's ones are still going strong after a few years at a fraction of the price.

What Tefal range are you using at the moment? The Teflon or ceramic?

I've got Tefal ceramic and they're great.

The latest one to fail was this - http://www.johnlewis.com/jamie-oliv...edfa5e&s_kwcid=404x1245114&tmad=c&tmcampid=73

Says titanium?

Yeah I was looking at Le Creuset skillets etc... but are they really worth the extra cost over Lodge or other similar cheaper brands?

I have started using the ProCook Pro Anodised, after using Tefal non stick for ages.
In particular the sauté pan and frying pans. Been really impressed so far.

I recently invested in a pair of Anolon Nouvelle pans which are excellent. I'm not sure if the copper ring is a gimmick but they have a solid weight to them, great construction, the highest grade non-stick dupont do (they also do teflon) which is autograph too. I saved myself a lot of money by buying them on ebay from the states, came to £70 in all for the 20 + 24cm pan, though not sure where this leaves you with the lifetime warranty.

Also worth trying out are circulon infinite (NOT Symmetry, avoid)

That what I've used (Jamie by Teflon)

That's got a Teflon coating providing the non stick rather than ceramic, all Teflon pans will give up their non stick eventually it's not a great material when it comes to having a long service life.

What would you recommend to replace it?

Links to products would be great :D

Teflon is great as long as you don't over heat it which you will be doing if you cooking a steak properly! For steak get a cast iron skillet everything else should be fine in a Teflon pan as long as you keep the heat down I never put mine on a burner on full power for example! They won't last forever but you will get more than two years!

Ceramic are another option if you can't resist cranking up the heat they will last longer but still not forever same with hard anodised, basically all the coatings will die after a while so no non-stick pan is a forever pan unlike stainless steel pans or cast iron ones!

had a set of Circulon genesis pans non stick for a few months and they state you can use metal utensils on the non stick... still immaculate.

for non-stick I would say 3-4 years life being used twice a week, before dead/sticking
Fried fruit sugar ... apple fritters is a pan killer I find.
Circulon "Premier Professional" ( unjustified name ?) concentric rings seem to catch fat & hard to clean
Tefal preference - had several in succession they last well - giving even heat
Le Creuset Silverstone non-stick - expensive but surface did not last -
.. always used non-stick utensils
.. first two ~£25, creuset £50
what do commercial kitchens use ? I would pay more if non-stick endured

I've got two fissler pans one small one and one large deep one that can do almost anything. They are hands down the best pans I have ever used. Got a great weight to them and I've never caught anything to them. Had them nearly a year now and as good as new.

Everything comes right off them too instantly. Can't remember what I paid for them but I know they aren't the cheapest.

No. They have "lifetime guarantee" written on the box and "does not cover non-stick surface" in small print which shows they're just as disposable as any other non-stick surface.

Use normal pans and non-stick only when you need non-stick.

Thanks monkeyspank,
I saw they were also available on ebay and picked up a couple, the coating
has some good reviews in the states and the manufacturer site
some interesting info on the milk/egg/tomato,.... tests for frying pans !
I will retire the Le Creuset to become a doorstop

Frying pans are to be used and abused. Mine always fail after a year or so. I currently have a set of Tefal hard anodized pans which are great but still use an older Analon pan for high heat cooking where the non-stick qualities are less important.

Cast iron griddle for steak.

Hard anodized is my preferred. Depending on brand usually get 2-4 years out of them and at around £30 for a large pan is fine for that long.

Quite like the Sainsbury triple ply I got at 50% off, although it's starting to stick now.
I dint know what happens, as the hard anodized always looks perfect when they go.
Be keeping my eye out for another bargin. 90+ of hob cooking is always done in a single large high sided frying pan. Frying, stews or anything else. Small pan which has lasted many years for eggs/bacon or other small quantity stuff.
Just check that the pans go to at least 220c and are oven proof.

Having a single cast iron for very high temp stuff like steak is a very good idea.

Struggling to find anything around the 26cm hard anodised - looking to replace Stellar 7000 equivalent that is losing it's non-stick.

I'm limited to online (Amazon, John Lewis etc) or small choice at Waitrose. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Sorry for thread hijack - didn't want to start a whole new thread.
