HI

Could do with abit of help please.

so far I have already purchased:

VTX3D HD 7850 2048MB
Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77
OCZ Vertex 4 128GB 2.5" SATA-3 Solid State Hard Drive
Antec High Current Pro HCP-750 Power supply - 750 Watt
cheap gaming case (case wont be seen so gone for a £23 case)

not sure what chip or ram to go for, this a fresh build as im upgrading from a clevo gaming laptop.

money is still a budget for me so was looking at 2500k or ivy, also i wasnt going to buy i monitor, i was just going to connect this rig upto a 42" hd tv in my "boys room" but not sure if this will work.

anyone willing to share their knowledge regarding what ram to get also is it worth me just holding out for ivybridge if its only a week away?

:D

I would get a decent case if I were you. One that even though is hidden away will help keep the system cool.

When gaming, the system will be producing quite a big amount of heat, so you will need a good air cooling card to push cool air in to cool your components better and fans to get rid of the hot air in system.

also pick up a good cpu cooler like the arctic cooling freezer i30 which is a freakin' great cooler and beats a lot of other expensive coolers hands down!

For a case, I would buy something like this Bit Fenix Merc Alpha.

It has plenty of cooling options, lots of drive bays, big inside, looks good and has good cable management to hide away the cables to help airflow around the case. And I think you said £23 for a case in the OP... this is only £29.99!!!!!!

I hope you haven't bought that cheap crappy case yet :P

Also which the i30 cooler, overclock that bad boy i5 to 4.5ghz easy! FREE EXTRA POWER!

The BitFenix Merc Alpha is an excellent choice of case. I have two and they are very well built, good cable management and worth a lot more than £29.99.

Thank for that. My better half is gonna try take the cheap case back tomo so i can get the one you have linked. Anymore direction on getting i5 sb or ib? also with the z77 board will i be gettng quad channel ram?

P.s i hope theytake this case back as its still in the box sealed

The dual channel Idleman recommended is perfect - 8GB is ideal for gaming

Don't know IB prices yet, so hard to say - the i5 2500K is on offer at the moment though, and would still be a good buy :)

When i was in overclockers today buying the motherboard i didnt know what to buy so i asked the guy serving. He told me not to buy asrock due to build quality. So i asked which of the cheap z77 boards to buy and and he recomended the gigabyte over asus. argh. I hope ive not messed up here. Surely theres not a lot of difference in motherboards... Is this one ok?

Gigabyte is a great choice :)
Solid build quality, UK RMA base too!

Regarding the cheap case. The same company i purchased the cheap case from also offer thermaltake commander case for £40 including vat. If i cant get a refund should i go for that. £30 for the one mentioned above or £ 40 for the thermaltake commander case. Any expect opinons?

If you like the look of that thermaltake, and it's worth £10 more to you, great - though you did say it wont be seen?

I'd get the BitFenix, cheap and clean looking - I've also used one on a build and they are good

Managed to get a refund ony cheapy case so going overclockers to pick up the one linkd. Case.

Really playing on my mind if i purchased the right motherboard.... Not sure to see if they will exchange it as i only purchased yesterday. Do i need to spend more on a board.. I wont use sli But maybe xfire in a yr or so when 7850 becomes cheaper. Should i save the £20-£40 and put it towards and ivy chip instead of motherboard...?

i found a ebay seller selling 2550k for £146.99, seems cheaper then the 2500k.

is there a reason for this?

seems a trusted, bussiness account with good sales history.
